Working on my old YZ bikesaw I built 35 years ago. First time running it in 20 years so need a carb kit.
The old 42mm Tillotson HD's check ball valve is seized and even after cleaning it up still need a couple of welch plugs.

Didn't have the time back in the day to reverse the engine rotation to make it right hand drive but got lots of time and the "internet" now.

Check that you have full wot.
The muffler could be a possibility. Lol

I took your advise, and lo and behold, it was not quite hitting wot.
Tweaked the linkage.
Then the pos would only turn 8800...

So, I pulled the oem Tillotson and put the China carb on.
It's back to 13,4-13,5 where it ran last time.

I am still only 1/4 turn out on the H however.

Im thinking something is awry in the Tilly, and my piss poor first attempt at porting a crappy China cylinder is the reason behind the almost bottomed screw.
Thats likely where it ended last time I ran it and I just didnt realize it.

Even with the cylinder as delivered, it ran decent, but drank fuel like a forced induction big block.

Hey there Al,
Have you tried the HDA 144-1 on a 262 yet?
Was wondering if it's comparable performance wise with the 87 or not.
I've done the 199 conversion, that works great.

I have personally run a ported saw back to back against others with the 120/144 vs the 87. It made a huge difference. The 199 runs the same and holds tune better than the 87.

Might be the timing in the cylinder holding it up too. Had this happen before years ago and learned a valuable lesson on replacement cylinders.

Thats with the H needle all the way in.
WTF.
It was fine last time I ran it..
Is it pissed it has a pink muffler?
Carb problem?
Thoughts?
I have a China carb that I had on previously. It ran fine, but throttle opening felt like it had a "notch" to it that annoyed me.

Are you getting good impulse?

Picked up another Wilton yesterday.
Going to take a bunch of work to clean it up. But it should be nice after.

Got lucky on the nice parts saw I took in for some labor on a saw.
I could hear the rattle in the muffler. Didnt care myself. Parts are parts to me.
Anyhow #5 is a runner now too. Still need to run all new lines though.

Or just leave it and put your chain on backwards.. lol
Actually originally had it cutting backwards right hand drive, cut like a scalded dog.
But was a wild animal to hang onto in the down cuts with a rooster tail flying straight out 40 feet.
Thats why you don't see chips flying backwards the 1st pic.

Forgot about these.

Some NOS Poulan 5400 full wraps. Will work on 5200 8500 and others in series. Like the grip on the gen 2 series 5400 the best. Not smooth like earlier and not foam like later.

I assume so? Not sure how I could test it on there as it comes through the intake block. If it had a line, it would be simple to hook in a guage.

Just eyeball the passages on the block and then feel for air pushing from the pulse hole on the cylinder while you turn the saw over.

It's pretty rare but I've seen the pulse passages on those intake blocks become clogged with carbon or debris. Once in a great while
also those intake blocks will crack, although that's more common on the bigger saws.
