Looks worth fixing to me. I have a 50 or 51 case at home I think, if you're in need. PM me and we can figure something out.

I appreciate that but i’m going to run it as is with the JB weld repair. I reinforced it with some nylon mesh and a screw to ensure it doesn’t come loose from the continuous oil environment and vibration. Since I have a spare 55 cyl, I am seriously considering swapping it on with a good port job, but it is open port, so no 028 piston. I happen to have a NIB Meteor 028 Super piston on hand to check it out but the windowed piston is counterproductive in an open port cyl.

Low miles Husqy 55 going back together. New Nachi bearings, new OEM seals and the 028S Meteor..... I’m going to port the 55 cyl and run it. The 028S piston DOES need the con rod opening opened up, approx 0.025 on each side. I went 0.050 on each side and notched for added fuel mix to get to the wrist pin. There is plenty of meat in there to support the wrist pin.

After a bunch of half-azzed research I have found that others have had good results with the window piston in an open cyl, so i shall give it a go.

And now the porting begins.

Also, The meteor piston interacted with the squish band on a dry fit, so i am using a gasket. The gasket is 0.0225” thick, so we will see where the squish is. Most likely sand the squish a touch and keep it 0.020-0.022

I just got a Husqy 141 for nothing, thinking of trying the 353 swap on it. I have never worked on a 141/142 so i have no idea other than I know its the same stroke and is clamshell. I have another 353 cyl and a bearing cup/riser. We’ll see where that ends up.

Seem to be having some issues with this 51-55 open port cyl build. As previously stated I am mocking up an 028S Meteor onto the 51 case/crank and using an OEM 55 open port cyl. Got the Meteor fitted to con rod, established the piston interacted with the cyl amd added a gasket. Now even with the gasket the piston is interacting with the squish band. Ok, no problem, I had planned to sand the squish anyways. Just out of curiosity I compared the pistons:

OEM 55 piston and Meteor:

OEM 51 piston and OEM 55 piston:

So i rough sketched the pistons and measurements to see the differences:

It appears the 51 piston is much shorter. Am I missing something? Do I have to change the crank?

OEM 51 and 55 cylinders:

Identical cylinders, same part number on both. Both saws have OEM rotating assemblies. Am I missing something here?

Just measured bore depth of both cylinders:

OEM 51: depth 65.75 mm base to skirt support height 6.75
OEM 55: depth 65.05 mm base to skirt support height 6.7
