Golden Spectro was very popular when I was growing up. My dad and uncle always ran it in their bikes and sleds. It doesn't really have much to do with oil we use in chainsaws,
but I got to go to the Motorex USA and Spectro facility today. Went through some product training and got to tour the blending and bottling facility. Pretty cool to see.

Hmm, maybe try following the instructions on the bottle and actually put it in the fuel…After Techron soak

Prior to Techron soak.

As you can see the Techron didnt do anything despite soaking for multiple days just as I suspected.
I followed the procedure that Lilspenny did and said worked.Hmm, maybe try following the instructions on the bottle and actually put it in the fuel…
It definitely cleaned up a 268 and my filthy 55 with a high dosage when ran in the fuel.
Thats compelling. I'll give it a try.Pic 1, 2,3 were RA only 25:1. Pic 4 and 5 were RA 25:1 with an ounce of Techron in the tank. Saw is a 268XP that was “new to me”

That's not dirty. Completely normal. When carbon becomes a problem is when its raised or associated with mettalic ash build up as my pictures show. A carbon covered piston with small wash is the normal state. The 55 was extremely dirty, this was 25:1 Dominator. Hard to tell the improvement on the piston cause it was dirty AF…

Here are the results of two tanks or a bit under 1.5 gallons of fuel with 4oz if Techron per tank.Hmm, maybe try following the instructions on the bottle and actually put it in the fuel…

Is this possibly more of a gasoline quality difference? Here are the results of two tanks or a bit under 1.5 gallons of fuel with 4oz if Techron per tank.
Still not seeing any change of note. Still shows ash buildup still shows hard carbon outside the washed area.

Are you saying gasoline quality impacted the ability of Techron to work?Is this possibly more of a gasoline quality difference?
A mechanic that used to do a bunch of TBI intake leaks in the 90’s tore one down in a Camaro and everything was clean clean. He asked the guy what was he using for an additive, he said he put a whole bottle of Techron in a full tank of gas before every oil change. Are you saying gasoline quality impacted the ability of Techron to work?
Gasoline was ExxonMobil non ethanol premium. I use it in all my stuff.
I have have tested a variety of products like Techron over the years and have yet to find one that does anything. And not for lack of looking. To be fair Techron is an injector cleaner. Is it realistic to expect something like Techron to remove carbon from pistons?
I like both of you guys quite a bit. The way you politely said this other dickhead reminds me of you cracked me up. Carry on fellasYamaha ring free (it’s expensive) and Mercury Quikclean were developed specifically to clean carbon from 2 and 4 stroke outboards. Ring free used to be Techron, then Yamaha changed the formula/vendor. There’s a dickhead Mercury tech over on Bass Boat Central BBC.com, he kinda reminds me of you, he has a formula of Quikclean 1, 2, 3 (there are 3 versions) to decarbonize any 2 or 4 stroke outboard motor in short order. 2020 Mercury 150 4 strokes and newer carbon up something crazy and cause performance issues if idled (stupidly long no wake zones) for extended periods. He was the one that figured out what additives to add to the fuel to not have to tear them apart to clean the exhaust port.
Not sure, but Project Farm tested almost every fuel additive and Red Stabil is the best at everything. The old RA formula as most premium synthetic 2 stroke oils have a fuel stabilizer/corrosion inhibitor in them.I like both of you guys quite a bit. The way you politely said this other dickhead reminds me of you cracked me up. Carry on fellas
Question would running red armor in four stroke gas clean pistons up any? I run somewhere around 50-60:1 in my small gasoline engines and I don’t know why but I do not have carburetor issues. My engines run well after being stored with the fuel still in the tank after sitting over the winter.
I've seen those TBI intakes gunked up. Its worth noting that intake gunk isnt carbon. So its not realistic for an injector cleaner to remove carbon from a two cycle piston.A mechanic that used to do a bunch of TBI intake leaks in the 90’s tore one down in a Camaro and everything was clean clean. He asked the guy what was he using for an additive, he said he put a whole bottle of Techron in a full tank of gas before every oil change.
He told me that story 26 years ago and I have been using it ever since. Maintenance dosage is 1 ounce per gallon, if you’re trying to clean something up, double it. My pictures were 1 ounce per tank of the saw so more like 4-8 ounces per gallon?
So when I had my fishing lodge I tried both of those products in addition to mercury power tune. None of them did anything either and I had the ability to test dozens of units for statistical validity.Yamaha ring free (it’s expensive) and Mercury Quikclean were developed specifically to clean carbon from 2 and 4 stroke outboards. We actually add the active ingrediant in Stabil to the gas my unit makes at the refinery. No doubt it works. What it cant do as it pertains to storage is stop volatility loss. Not sure, but Project Farm tested almost every fuel additive and Red Stabil is the best at everything. The old RA formula as most premium synthetic 2 stroke oils have a fuel stabilizer/corrosion inhibitor in them.
