It doesn't really have much to do with oil we use in chainsaws,
but I got to go to the Motorex USA and Spectro facility today. Went through some product training and got to tour the blending and bottling facility. Pretty cool to see.

Golden Spectro was very popular when I was growing up. My dad and uncle always ran it in their bikes and sleds.
I still remember the smell of GS. Might have to buy some and try it out. I havent ran any in 20 or more years. The SX Platinum stuff was pretty good in the 2000 CR250 I had.

After Techron soak

Prior to Techron soak.

As you can see the Techron didnt do anything despite soaking for multiple days just as I suspected.
Hmm, maybe try following the instructions on the bottle and actually put it in the fuel…

It definitely cleaned up a 268 and my filthy 55 with a high dosage when ran in the fuel.

I followed the procedure that Lilspenny did and said worked.
I have put it in the fuel as well along with testing several other products. Not one did a thing there either.
I would be more than happy to put a high dose in the fuel and give it a try if you would like? Whats a high dose?
I would really like to find a product that removes piston crown carbon so I am all ears.

Pic 1, 2,3 were RA only 25:1. Pic 4 and 5 were RA 25:1 with an ounce of Techron in the tank. Saw is a 268XP that was “new to me”

Thats compelling. I'll give it a try.
Keep in mind running excessively rich will do the same thing.
The piston pictured in pics 1-3 doesnt appear to be very dirty at all. Contrast that with the pic of mine with the crusty ash buildup. The ash build up i woukd like to remove. A thin carbon coating with slight wash at the transfers is normal and desired. It lets you know your tuning is close.

The 55 was extremely dirty, this was 25:1 Dominator. Hard to tell the improvement on the piston cause it was dirty AF…
