To clear things up,

Fj40's and a "low profile" FJ55 or "Iron Pig":

FZJ80's here are all "low mileage for age". That translated means 'too expensive to run unless absolutely necessary'.
We have a 95 HDJ80 diesel in the family. Cheaper to run. Still showing its age tho.

79 series.
Test-drove a BJ 70 back in 2012. Just climbing a mountain road with no load, I watched the temp gauge climb near overheat. Had to stop occasionally and let the little 3b diesel idle to cool down. The short wheel base was terrifying on the highway. Did not care for that thing at all.

I was following a fella in South Africa that did a 292 chevy swap in a 70 series. He did a good job, and had gobs of power:

Then some land rover guys are replacing those garbage british motors with chevy 250's:

Some young fellas have an infatuation with overseas rarities. But our American iron is simply better.

Spent over $4800 just in OEM parts and machine work, to do a head gasket job on a 1fz-fe. This was in 2016. Could only imagine what it would cost today. Could build an entire fkn 383 stroker for less than that cost.

I drove one of those 70 series when I was living in South Africa. I believe it had a V8 diesel, but I could be wrong. That was in 1995.

At the dealership it was roughly $1k for a head gasket kit (all the necessary gaskets) and new bolts/washers. To do a complete timing job with a new timing cover as well as the chain, guides, tensioner, and a few misc things that were bad from age it was $1k. I dunno how much machine work woulda cost but I'll bet it would have been under $4k all said and done for the timing job and a head gasket. Mine had the head gasket redone back in 2018 or so preventatively so I should be good for a while, though.

The 24 new valves in the head were installed by the the machine shop. At 240,000 miles on this 1fz-fe, the exuahst valves were quite worn, so had them all replaced. Then all the shimming of each valve: lotta shop time to overhual the head. Valve seats and valve guides were in good shape.

Sent the fuel injectors off to be rebuilt/balanced. The head was shaved 10 thousandths.

Like I said, done right it's just shy of 5 grand, and this was doing the job myself.

Dominator for the win; 36:1 just because...

I just switched recently to 36ish:1. I mix Mystik JT-4 full synthetic snowmobile (JASO FC) at 50:1, then add 1 oz. of Klotz Super Techniplate per gallon. Saw the idea on an old oil thread on AS, and figured I'd give it a go because I wanted to see what Klotz smelled like.

The Husky XP full synthetic that I have been running is basically tear gas when cutting near a stump. I do like the Klotz smell!

36:1 is not a big jump from the 40:1 that I used to run, but the saw definitely appears to have picked up some power. It could just be that I had just spent some quality filing time with the chain in a vice, but I think that the increased ratio made a noticeable difference.

That Klotz is probably the worst oil you can possibly use.

I know that it is not rated for for storage, and that some have observed glazing, but I figured with it making up less than 1/6 of the total oil, I could have a little bean in there without the issues.

Some kind of Klotz. I believe R50 or super techniplate. Black sh!t everywhere and waxy plastic sticking the rings in place. Ported 500i lost compression but I was able to clean it and reuse the parts. Ported 462 wasn’t so lucky, ended up taking out both the ported cylinder and piston
