Actually the latest testing on viscosity in the real world is pointing towards it's very important. Apart from a thicker oil has a better ring seal and producing measurable hp gains, thicker oil also offers superior engine wear protection over thin oils.
There are companies with all the expensive equipment and knowledge testing all this.
Testing also shows once an engine is up to operating temperature any parasitic loss of a thicker oil goes away.

I believe top fuelers run a straight 70-80 weight oil. Whoever said viscosity means nothing is guessing at best lol

It still depends on the ad pack. I believe it was mentioned that dominator has a lower viscosity than most oils tested, but it was the one that came out on top because of how clean it runs even with added heat. But generally speaking, if the ad packs were the same, I agree completely with you

Yes true but the testing I've been following shows thin oils regardless of additives work fine under normal working loads.. problems arise when pushed to perform the thin boundary layer of oil breaks down allowing engine wear to occur.
Oils with a thicker viscosity have shown to out perform thinner oils by quite a large margin if engine protection is the ultimate goal.

Weed eaters and chainsaws probably ain't very high strung or high load engines is probably why most any oil works fine in them.

Personally I run two mineral oils in my saws. One is a thin ish oil and one is a very thick oil. I can't even tell the difference I don't even retune switching between the two.

You seem more Karenish than anyone in this thread to be perfectly honest.
LOL, selective memory at it again Randy? Comparing Top Fuel engine lubricant needs to that of a 2 stroke saw is just about the most unproductive comments in this thread to date. While the automotive lubrication world has a ton of things to contend with/meet mandate wise, Oil viscosities are decreasing with component life increasing. We are now what from 0 to negative weights? Oh and Dominator causes rust in chainsaws too….

Now now calm down Karen lol
I believe that was egg shooters biggest problem aswell not being capable of keeping emotions under control.

I wasn't comparing or saying 2t's have anything to do with a top fuelers. I was just pointing out saying viscosity doesn't matter as a blanket statement is the dumbest thing Ive ever heard lol

If viscosity didn't matter, they wouldn't give it

Actually you did, and then you went on to say they don’t see enough load to matter and what not.

Did you not post this, or do you suffer from selective memory like Randy?

No seriously calm down I never said Dominator wasn't a good oil it's okay chill buddy 🙂
What I was trying to communicate was oil viscosity is kind of important regardless of what some dude testing oil in weed eaters reckons.

This seems to have set you off my apologies. I wouldn't have said anything if I knew emotions ran this unchecked on the subject.

Who said anything specifically about Dominator other than that it was the lowest viscosity oil of those tested that did the best, the rest were all over the map in terms of viscosity and how well they did. If viscosity was an all important factor, the viscosity would have had some pattern relative to its performance. There was no relevant pattern between viscosity and performance, how would you categorize that then?

I actually have a horrible memory....might be the decades of alcohol and drug abuse.

But I know an *a-hole when I encounter one.

You ok?
