Did LB actually recommend the 16:1 back then ? , I know you were supposed to use 30 grade motor oil for the mix , I can remember doing that with the old 1958 I had back in the late 60's early 70's .

pre 1970 16:1
post 1970 32:1
they redesigned the bearing set up and went from 3 ring pistons to 2 ring pistons
lawn boy in 1957 specs a SAE 40 non detergent but in the mid 60's lawn boy started packaging a new reformulated oil with a spec of tcw.
all oils under tcw now are called tcw,tcw1,tcw2 and finally tcw3.

Reread my post. I said there was a disclaimer that IF used in tcw3 application. Most of these race oils will specifically state for racing purposes and not intended for a storage oil. Seems alot of the full synthetic oils that dont contain ester r doing a pretty poor job at corrosion resistance rather than the esters oils that r stated to attract moisture . I havent seen a problem yet in any of my equipment.
Amsoil should be aware of the fact that NON TCW3. Oils shouldn't be used in TCW3 applications. Their guidance suggests otherwise.
IMO 100% ester oils should all have a disclaimer stating not optimal for storage.

You don't need to run that old brick top with that rich of mixture with the modern oils Jake , I'd do 32:1 if you're concerned and it'll keep the skeeters away at that ! :b1:
Some of those older lawnboys use bronze bearings. I'd think long and hard before I deviated from the reccomended ratio given that parts in many cases are non longer available.
I would also never use less oil than 32:1 in a Duraforce motor as their rod bearings are pretty sensitive to lack of lubrication.
