You should see the one on Arboristsite, its about 450 pages and over 8500 posts. You guys should start an octane thread, or some such, IMO! This is one of those beastly long threads that has morphed into some pretty awesome back and forth for the jv team such as myself to enjoy/learn from. But sheesh, you see a thread with this moniker, and then see 45 pages, zoiks!
Yep. Every time I tested 87 was faster. Looks like dumonde was the fastest oil by about 4%. Not,much but when .01 count racing it adds upVery interesting results. The first thing I noticed was the sound of the exhaust. The 87 seems to have more of a deeper sound with a bit more pop. I also noticed the 87 was easier to hear the saw 4 stroking. It also sounded to me like the 87 was holding rpms a touch better in the cut. May of just been exhaust note though.
What's the flash point of the dumonde?Yep. Every time I tested 87 was faster. Looks like dumonde was the fastest oil by about 4%. Not,much but when .01 count racing it adds up
Throw in that 046 you mill with.If I can get time I'll try the 87 and 94 in the pine cants with the 346 or 562. They were 3 second range and the 7900 was in the 1.1 with a decent chain.
I may in a day or two. I got a new modded carb for it and have to get it tuned. It flooded yesterday so it hasn't been started since I got the carb. I know the milling cuts on back to back slabs were way different from 87 to 94 in time.Throw in that 046 you mill with.
Dang!!! I want a Dolmar!!!87 dumonde
To me timing cuts milling would definitely tell you if there's a difference in performance with octanes.I may in a day or two. I got a new modded carb for it and have to get it tuned. I agree. It would be a lot easier to see the difference in a cut that last 5mins compared to a cut that last 1 sec. I think it would also be interesting to see the difference in jug temps after a long cut. Maybe use a point and shot temp gun right after finishing the cutTo me timing cuts milling would definitely tell you if there's a difference in performance with octanes.
The 8x8 is the most consistent wood I have here to test in. If I can find one I'll get one to check.I agree. Interesting??? How does the viscosity compare?they are nearly identical. 221 and 225.
