I don't think it's any different from any other oil,all of it will leave carbon when burned.
I've seen saws that the exhaust port was almost carboned shut from stihl oil and a bad tune.

If there's no carbon on your piston crown after several gallons of gas your tune is rich.

I agree fully, however this is where finding what works comes into play, I use to run R50 at 32:1 and all other oils at this ratio, and thought it was dirty burning, however at 45:1 it is no more dirty than HP2 In my results

I think 32:1 is to much with any oil but for certain klotz and that's why it's called a dirty oil.

A clean piston is tuned too rich or the oil isn't properly combusting
I disagree. All my saws cleanup in the cut and my internals are a lot cleaner than Klotz with plenty of lube. If my saw is still 4-stroking under load it's to rich. Try Klotz Benol rich....it'll still be full of deposits.

Yamalube and HP2 always striked me as 32:1 oils, K2 I liked at 32:1, Bel Ray while tunning was different was alright at 32:1, Motul I ran at 32:1 but feel like I would like it at 50:1, Mobil 1 I plan on running at 32:1. Ipone 32:1 to start out.

Nothing wrong with reducing oil ratio if everything looks excessive and you feel safe doing so. This is where time and experimenting happens.

Just because the saw is cleaning up doesn't mean the oil is combusting, it just means it's tuned right. Everything is clean because its not burning.

800 when burnt will make a goo on the piston top.

I recently worked on an 034 that was tuned extremely rich. The piston and exhaust port looked horrible. My tach showed it a little over 12000. Very rich but full of crud!

You told me 800 was the cleanest you've used just like Keith. Lubed almost as good as R-50 in the lower end but was super clean.
It still makes carbon. They all do some when they burn. I asked a guy I sold a saw to if there was carbon. He said exhaust port and piston top both. It was ran on 800 and milled 2 gallons worth in one day that I remember.

It is cleaner than super or 927 in a firewood saw. Cleanest is my lowest priority for picking oil. Fastest and happiest saw are top.
