Wanted Oregon LGX chain

I have some of each. Have not had troubles with either. Can’t really comment about hardness since I grind mine.

I grind with a cbn wheel . However I clean the gullet out with a file . I have noticed every once in a while I will get a chain loop that has one cutter that my file doesn't scratch the gullet because it's so hard . It's funny because it will only be one link in the loop that's like this .

I did get a loop of EXL like that of the internet, I was sharpening it and thought my file was clogging, I keep rotating it and cleaning it between teeth ,finally I sprayed it down with carb cleaner over a white rag and figured out it was the chain.
I mostly like EXL but lately I've been using more Husqvarna X-CUT and like it just as much for cut speed. I'm still using old stock 40+ years Oregon and others though and quality certainly has suffered from what it used to be.

I think x-cut is the best chain on the market. Some of the teeth get a little soft towards the middle but it still holds an edge very well. Its got a slim light chassis, streamline rakers, tall teeth, and a narrow profile, what's not to love? Best factory grind available too

I've got some x-cut chain and it's really nice . One of the places I get chain from a 72dl loop of x-cut is only 25 cents more than a 72dl loop of exl .

Yep, and if buying by the roll its not bad at all. Local shops are $15 a loop for either EXL or x-cut, I'm pretty happy with that.

I think I might like the lgx better myself on long bars. Holds an edge cutting trees. Touch ups are so easy.

I just milled a 31” walnut using 2 42” loops of jgx and one of exj. 16 monster slabs. EXL/skip is EXJ holds an edge longer, no doubt about it. I got 2-3 more cuts with the EX than the older stuff. And you can feel it’s harder when filing.
Absolutely zero issues oiling. Couple blips of the throttle after the cut and the chain is wet.

I like LGX too. It’s just very soft. Very easy to file and doesn’t hold an edge anywhere close to Stihl RS. EXL is without a doubt a step closer to the still. Not equal tho. No experience with XCut.

Kind of outside the topic a little bit, but is 72cl close to lgx at all? I know cl is square ground, but as far as the chain it's the same isn't it?

I like the cl, and the exl a lot. The exl I've used and abused and it help up well. I've never run lgx.....

Years ago Left Coast Supply LGX loops shipped free $10 for 72 dl and $12 for 84 dl. Stocked up on a bunch and a few 36" 114 dl.
I grind w CBN on Maxx Grinder.

I used to run a bunch of lgx cause I could get it dirt cheap. Always worked ok for what I did. Touch it up every couple tanks. I’ve always liked stihl rs. All my old chains left are a mix of lgx or rs. Anything new is xcut…I’m liking xcut.

The initial exl factory grind is hard almost ruining a file most times but that does stay sharp a little bit longer , but not much. But after the first sharpening it just as soft, cuts way ruffer and way slower. Lgx is a much more versatile smooth, taller, and longer tooth. After I use up the chain I got from logging congress, I'm switching to husqvarna chain, they have one that was basically the same as lgx

The old h48 chain? Yeah that one is really similar to lgx, maybe a slightly shorter tooth if I remember right. A swipe or two off the raker and a little touch up and it cuts nicely.
