Tip it on its side to pour out the chainsaw seeds.
According to internet lore, if you plant these in the field they will sprout new chainsaws..View attachment 396781

I used to plant the cardboard centers of toilet paper & grew toilet paper all during the Covid Pandemic.

If I use anything but Stihl parts does it still count? Do I need a light ring while filming?

Yes, and you could always just make @Woodpecker hold a flashlight.
Flashlight.
Not the other item that sounds similar that im sure you 2 are aquainted with..

Looking at it in person, the only machine marks are above the top ring land.
I also see no indication that's its a Stihl piston? They are typically proud of their shìt, and nowhere on it is a Stihl logo or name now that I really look at it.
Dunno..
The newer Stihl pistons can have a dot matrix Stihl emblem on their crowns. The old ones don’t. Look inside the skirts. There will either be a K$ symbol or a Mahle In raised letters.

I’d also replace the slug, but why don’t you actually check skirt to cylinder clearance at BDC for shíts and giggles.

Very disappointed that this needed an edit.

I found the KS logo.

If I do Tim's "drop the thing into the other thing" test, it actually drops with resistance.

And if I go with a feeler guage between the jug and slug, .0025" is all that fits.

If it’s not cracked, that piston still ok to run. If you’re going through all the trouble anyway, a meteor is cheap insurance.

Look inside the skirts for the cast in manufacturer.

What's you dudes consensus on this piston?
It's got some shiney spots at the bottom edge of the skirt. None of the visible smear marks can be felt.

The rings are a bit wide for the bore...

So, order piston and rings because I'm right there or order rings and carry on?

@redline4 Put in a new set of Cabers, clean up the piston and call it a day.
I was going to say I would just change the rings, and run it. For a way bit longer. But if your lazy of very busy then a new meteor is cheap and easy while your there.

Anyhow I see your all set what ever route you take

Btw, I know your not lazy and very busy 😉👍

I had a few minutes during my lunch hour today.

I hit the inside of the flywheel with a spray of brake cleaner and compressed air to get the crap out of there.

Zapped off the 13mm nut

Installed the puller and popped it off.
Even if you only ever have to do this part twice, these pullers are super cheap and well worth having in your toolbox

And here's the flywheel.

I haven't yet but I plan to reference the 064 coil thread to see what is compatible with it as the coil I have has a pretty rough lead on it

I managed a few minutes in the shop today.

Unbolt the oil pump
20231125_121104.jpg

And lift it up
20231125_121137.jpg

I used a small hammer and a punch to remove the oil line to the bar pad
20231125_121310.jpg

And then the oil feed hose pops out.

20231125_121354.jpg

When I'm removing the rubber parts like this oil line, impulse and fuel lines I never worry about being too gentle. If it's going to tear, I want it to now, while it's apart.

I removed the remaining 2 antivibe buffers
20231125_121504.jpg

And this limiter
20231125_121528.jpg

Peeled off the foil on the case
20231125_121557.jpg

And had to dig around in here like Maury Povitch looking for a long lost baby daddy
20231125_121621.jpg

And then removed the 6 case half screws.

Took the heat gun to it until it got good and warm and stunk like burning possum
20231125_123303.jpg

And with the trust rubber hammer, drove 1 side apart.
20231125_124017.jpg
Repeat on the other side
20231125_124143.jpg

And it's split.
20231125_124414.jpg

The bearings felt fine when it was all assembled, but apart the flywheel bearing feels very gritty.
