I hate flippy caps because my dad who's 65 and the only saw he heats his house with has them. You should hear him on what he thinks of them!

Stuff like today's sissy boys could never run a real chainsaw with a Thumb oiler,no easy start, no decompression valve, this generation must not be able to screw in a lightbulb....and much more!! Another thing is he spilled more "OF MY" bar oil and fuel then you could imagine and I've had to reset many of caps for him "RIGHT NOW".... The savings all the way around would be priceless for me!!

This version is so far only made in the larger of the two sizes.
So if you have a 362 or 440 or God forbid a 290 you are set.
If your. Tool uses two different size caps your oil will still pour out on your boots.
They will be about $12 pair shipped in the us when they get here and will be on eBay.

Skip sail I hope I am not out of line to say your dealer was a dick, out of warranty in two hours.

I will post up some glamour shots later today.
There is a second type of replacement also coming pretty soon from Gregg at Left Coast that lock with a push button. He sent me a sample and I plan to carry those as well. Gregg said they would be available in both sizes
What's wrong with a 290?????

Don't want any flippy replacements. Don't need 'em. I move everything along that uses 'em.

Stihls are for flipping. Let the next guy deal with it.[emoji48]

Wait!............do 880's use em?.............crap...............they do................[emoji33]

I worked with a guy a few years back that could never fasten the caps on the trimmers right. He would gas it, put the cap on, then walk away trailing gas. He actually managed to lose the cap on a steep hill one day and was crawling around looking for it. I was about a hundred yards away watching this and thinking "How hard is it? It's a gas cap."

My biggest squawk about flippy caps is that they can snap down and not really be closed. So, they catch you by surprise like a snake in the grass. It makes no difference if it's the bar oil or the fuel cap, they can do this and when you think things are OK, they are not OK. So, the fluid comes out all over the place, even before you get the saw running. It's not just a slow leak--it's a flowing faucet.

If you are lucky, you discover the situation before you start the saw, but I never seem to be that lucky. I realize that Stihl's intentions were good, but I'm afraid the flippy cap was not adequately field tested. What made the situation worse was the lack of backward compatibility with the twist cap that every earlier Stihl owner had already been using. Not one of these older caps works with the newer saws designed with flippies. That was sheer nonsense.

Then there's the problem that they break and become useless. And, the thin plastic strings that tie them to the housing are designed to break loose from the cap like toys or slide out the channel in the tank that was designed to hold them. I could go on with more criticisms, but that's enough for one post.

It's the o rings that go bad on the flippys .The ethanol makes them stiffen up and you end up breaking the danged caps. I've got a bag of o-rings but I forgot the size .I'll google it when I get time.

Anyone else had a flippy get "out of time"? As we all know they only go in one way...well I had a MS250 that the fuel cap wasn't keyed correctly. New AM from Dave fixed it right up..owner said it was never easier to use. Wonder how many make it out slightly screwed up from the dealer...

Knock on wood, never had a flippy cap get fuel or oil on me. I guess I'm either lucky or just smarter than you fuggas' :asz:

On the contrary, I was running an 044 this past weekend that, unbeknownst to me, had a fuel cap that was no longer sealing and it wept fuel on me while I was using it. I blame that on the builder though, he sucks.

Oh? I see how it is. I graciously store your old red Solo for you, and this is the thanks I get?

No respect these days.......none at all. :(

What I would like to know if this solves the problem of having zero contaminants around the flippy area for them to work. Never had a problem with them in the morning, it's in the afternoon when they get grungy that they start to get finicky. All so Joe Homeowner can easily fill his saw up so he can cut a branch off his ornamental tree.
