When sitting closed containing fuel?
They don't, same as Your chainsaw fuel tanks (though those can breathe IN!).
Thick plastic holds the pressure.
They just breathe with the fuel, expand on heat & retract on cold.
I mean when you are pouring out the fuel. Without a vent to allow air in as fuel leaves you get that surging...glug...glug...glug. That is easy to remedy though

Ah, gotcha!

The old German can spout and Jerry can spout have sort of a breather tube.

The "current" fuel can spouts do not.

They all do the glug... glug... glug... thing and You can count Your gallons by it. :p
Never seemed to be an issue for me.

The blue canister has a second small non removable plug that You loosen to let air in as You pour.
It does not "glug"!

Here’s my current can situation. I’ve had a new cap/nozzle assembly on the Wedco 2.5 gal for 1.5 yrs now, it costed $15 from eBay, threads are picky, but it doesn’t leak at all. The 2 blitz 5 gal cans got new cap/nozzle assemblies from Amazon and those threads are also a little picky, but no leaks with those either, I bought a 3 pack. Unfortunately I ordered them over a year ago on my mom’s eBay account so I wouldn’t be able to find the exact ones link again. IMG_8689.jpeg

I’ve tried drilling the 1/2” hole for the vent that comes with the spout but I have a hard time getting them tight enough so they don’t leak. I must be doing something wrong but I can’t figure out what.
You need to use a smaller drill bit. Proper drill size is listed in the ad. I use a bit of crazy glue when I put them in. Mine get thrown around.

Wooden golf tee makes a good vent. Doesn’t leak

I bought some replacement nozzles years ago. They’re ok. They just need a better quality o ring. And the plastic kinda binds after a few years. All in all they’re good. Saw an ad on tik tok recently for some nice looking replacement spouts. I can go look if anyone wants to know. I however have no experience with them.

Get the EZ pour kits. They come with a vent assembly to install. We've sold a ton of them and use them at home and in the shop. They have a big and small hose size. The big size is BIG! You can overflow a tank quickly with it.

I am not a fan of Jerry cans. They are top heavy.
