Started with my Grap's old Super XL Auto and it has cut a LOT of wood. My dad had a Poulan 245A that he ran for years. Super EZ Auto is also a little runner that has cut tons of wood for me and the old man. I love my MS440 with a 28" bar. Just picked up a 044 and threw a 20" bar I had laying around. Fun saw too.

My 044 was my only saw for 18 years, and if I had to have only one, that would still be it. That said, I love using the 362 for limbing and the ported 046/460s for bucking, but my 044s almost always seem to get heavy use.

IMO, the 044s are the best all around saw size, with a 372 being right in there with it. The 60 cc saws will not keep up with them bucking, and the heavier saws will wear you out fast if you try to limb with them.

Its hard to beat this pair

That is a great pair and a great pic, and it opens up a whole new phase of the discussion. How big is the wood that you run into? Big cube saws do give you much more capability when you run into wood that size. Lotta guys would have to pass that by. I always say that it all looks the same when it's split and stacked, but what did you start out with? The wood that we cut most often has a lot to do with what makes a good firewood saw.

Typical firewood log around here would be 10"-15", so most of the saws mentioned in this thread would have no problem. Buddy of mine gets deals on picker loads of logs that are too big or crooked to go through the loggers processor, or sell to the average customer. So it's 80+cc saws and 24" bars for that wood. He just got a load last night and we were laughing at some of the logs coming off that truck. Gonna be fun though. :ARMS1:
