I recently put a new tank on this saw (month or two ago) and it lives on the side of a chip truck. High mileage MS440. He was happy when he got it back lov9ng the fact it had new AV's, new intake, new impulse, etc. Tune didn't move and was spot on after repairs. It came back yesterday claiming low power, fuel pouring out, not usable.

This is what I found in a 10 minute diagnosis...

Time to vac test it and go from there I guess... thoughts on the piston damage? Crown pretty beat up.

Looks like the crank seal on the oil pump side gave out and it's been burning bar oil for a while.

Before I read anymore I'd say bad fuel or water in the fuel, too much oil not enough fuel delivery, and the filter I have seen worse and it is a compensater carb. Big exhaust leak maybe no screen and something fell into exhaust and stayed there for a bit

Is it just an illusion, or is there a tremendous amount of buildup in that exhaust port? that piston is a keeper :D
