I've seen plenty of you guys talking about square grinders and to be honest I've always wanted one, think it's about time I pulled the trigger.

Problem is I've sort of fallen In love with the pro sharp, just seems such a nice design and easy to use. I don't suppose anyone knows of one for sale? I'm also mildly aware that these may be as rare as rocking horse *s-word

Second how do people rate the simington 451C?

Just so you know...

The Pro Sharp when it was last sold was $2400.00. Anyone that has a used one won't be cheap.

I think I'd better get comfortable with the idea of a simington then! I'm guessing the pro sharp would still run around $1800 or so used?

Simington is your only choice for a current manufacturer. Silvey has been out of production for a few years now.

I have a Simington 450. Heck, I love it. It took me awhile to get the hang of it, but once I got my stone angles where I wanted them, it's as simple as dirt. I can touch up a 28" loop faster on it than I can do an 18" loop on a round grinder.
I have round and square grinders, I don't notice one being faster than the other. But I use a RS 2, not sure how that compares to a 450. Is the 450 a swing arm?

Mostly it's a matter of getting comfortable with it. I don't use the stops anymore......and I have some stones that hold their shape longer (the blue ones).

I may invest in a simington purely based on the fact that a few guys have them, so I might end up nagging for a few pointers on grinding my stone in a few weeks! That is once I've converted it over to run on UK power supply, which hopefully won't be too painful

My next grinder will be a Simington. I think they are fine units.

Simington has a "European Order" phone #. I am assuming they make a European model to run on Euro power supply, so you may not have to convert anything.
