So I was just curious...

If Oregon can make an electric motor chisel bit (round) grinder, why they don't make a square grinder?

And why if the numerous companies that make variations on that round grinder can make and sell them for about $100 or less, do all the square chain grinders cost $500 and up?

I know someone is going to say "because square grinders are all metal, and the Oregon 511A is partly plastic" or maybe "because the square grinders have more precision"... but I still don't see how any of those answers justifies the lack of available options, or the price difference.

Even if you said "because the square grinders are made of all custom fabricated pieces", I don't see why some company isn't able to mass produce a design.

You answered it. Because the square grinders require more precision. By nature of the roundness less precision is require for the tooth point to be sharp on a round grinder. Square requires the tooth point be aligned with a grinding/filing point. Less precise square grinders simply wouldn't work.
