9010 runs like an Echo. At first it seemed a bit peaky in the power curve, but after a couple cuts it has a very smooth & forgiving power curve.

But it smells really bad when it gets hot. Maybe it's the muffler paint?

Terrible air filtration. Why have a pre filter on the starter side when there's an open hole under the air box on the clutch side? The old style flocked filter (same material as old Stihl 028 filters) has large squares that can easily pass the large leaf of a yellow pine, while the fibers give it more flow resistance than nylon mesh.

I might look for a spare filter to mod with nylon mesh and plug the hole in the bottom if the air box with oiled foam. I might even put oiled foam inside the air filter like what a 660 has.

Piston has a typical wash pattern: all dark except for along the back edge and a little in the back middle.

Does anyone have some good numbers for me to use on my 9010? @huskihl @srcarr52 @Mastermind

I haven't timed it yet, but I'm thinking 98deg would be good exhaust for a 30" bar, the transfer port shape look good from inside, I don't think I'd want to change the uppers much.

I’ve only ported one and I used a different piston. So my numbers are kinda out the window probably.

I had somewhere around 99/119/80 in Nathans 9010 I did.

I noticed when I got it that the paint on the starter cover was bubbly, and sure enough it is flaking off. Dark gray magnesium underneath. :(

The terrible burning smell was coming from the exhaust gasket.

Needs a new tank vent filter, the foam has no cohesion.

No sir. I just can't seem to tune those Dolkitas worth a dam.
It's well known. Lol
Simply use a tach, tune to just shy of coil limit.
If still four stroking in the cut under load lean her out more by tiny increments.

Seems to work OK for me.
Cheap 10-25$ tach off eBay does the trick.

Fun with the little ones at the woodpile.

Pretty strong saws for their displacement. The 4300 is muffler modded and the 431 is muffler modded and slightly ported. Really liking the 4300. Only cost me €300 and use it way more than any other saw I own.

The spare part I mentioned also includes retaining ring and duck bill.
if it were just the foam @qurotro is probably right
I think only the foam parts deteriorated. Pull the ring out and clean out the remains. Cut some foam and stuck it in there. Installed the retainning clip and call it the day.

Anybody who has worked on a dolmar ps9000/9010 could tell me what that lip is for on the upper part on the intake side? And if doing portwork, should it be removed or not?
