I've got an SP 81 that has high comp but I've never checked how much .Between that and an 805/850 meaning a complete old style 850 under the guise of an 805.long story I don't know which one has more oomph.
I had the Sp 81 close the decomp on a drop start and "walk the rope" scared 'ell out of me and I never since drop started that saw . My heavens had that thing fired it could have cut my arm off .

My PM700 registers only 130 or so. It is much more difficult to pull over without using the DSP than the 800s.

For my go to 800, I use a large diameter pull rope and the old style roller recoil cover, Set it on a log and pull almost straight back. I wish I could find some more of the recoil covers.

I don't know why they referred to it as a "3rd port boot" but at least one eBay seller advertises the parts that way.

I have one SP80 (points ignition) that will fire if you roll it over slowly just to get it into position to pull, that is exciting.

I too like the starters with the roller fair lead.









I have found the rollers on a few SP80/81 saws, SP60 and SP70, even one 10-10.

Few years back I bought two NOS roller covers. Seller sold out before I realized how neat they were. Unfortunately Mac didn't change the part number so you have to eyeball any that are listed.

I googled third port boot; all I got was what appears to be the familiar universal intake boot for the AV Ten series.

Maybe this is it: Mac gave the boot a new part number so maybe it was redesigned to make it less likely to deform inside ??? The 3rd comes from port 1 - exhaust; port 2- impulse; port 3 - intake port ???

My 6-10 has a decomp deal like that saw .It stuck so I don't use use it .The thing starts easy and it's the only 10 series I've enhanced .I haven't started it in over a year but I'd bet it would go on 4 .

Another picture of a 6-10 with a 28" NOS Mac bar .It's my taking pictures bar ,I don't use it but I've got another and that little saw does quit well wearing it .

Chipper teeth won't cut quite as fast as semi chisel or chisel chain but does tend to stay sharp longer since there is a bit more material in contact with the wood.

I've got a pretty good length roll of it....probably fifteen or twenty feet. No master links though, it looks like they're not impossible to find. I bought the roll for twenty bucks at a pawn shop. There's another guy in town who's restoring a model 99 two man with a five foot bar and he needs some chain. I might regret it later but I might pass this on to him. Hopefully my good deed will come back to me later. Thanks for the help gentlemen !

For the life of me I could never figure out why they made little gear drive saws . You normally think of a gear drive as a big displacement saw with a long bar on big oak or some of those PNW giants .I remember as teenager about the last of them .Big old McCullochs with handlebars like a motorcycle .4 to 5 foot bars chewing away on big oak trees .There must have been a market for the little ones .

They don't turn up too often. I would sure love to try one to see how they cut. Nice 6-10 you have there.

I've only seen one of those little 10 series gear drives ever .I didn't see it run though .At the same GTG I saw a 700 engine coupled to a little generator .

It's evident although McCulloch made a lot of things some are pretty rare . They made a zillion kart engines,try and find one they don't want an arm and a leg for .

I am thinking the LG-6 will receive a very thorough going over. I may even have a NOS block/cylinder for it if it needs serious help but looking at it appears pretty clean is the photos anyway. I won't get to see it in person for another 10 days or so and then it will only be a passing glance.

I understand the gear drive saws were popular with pulp wood cutters, particularly in the South. I do have a very nice bow bar to fit the 10 Series, I may have to try that set up on this saw. It appears in the photos that the roller nose bar has a piece missing.









I also have a 2-10G that is really low on compression but actually holds its own against any similar sized gear drive saw. It typically does well in the vintage saw contest in Baraboo,
