I got thinking about the above .I think the spline bolt head is hardened where as a normal socket head grade 8 screw is not .If I'm correct if that be the case a six point socket might work .Problem solved . Of all collector it's a very small number who would even have McCullochs let alone the few that use those style of .bolts .

It all me back to my memory . It was years ago prior to pay pal on e-bay I bought the spline socket from this lady .Paid for it with a US postal money order and recieved it .About 2 months later I get a PM from her saying I never paid for it .I first put a tracker on it which proved it had been cashed and sent the report plus a picture of the money order for proof .It must have caused her some shame so she sent me another socket plus the wrench of which I never asked for .Evidently for some reason her records were inacurate and for a period of time she was absent from e-bay .--more ---

When McCulloch as a brand went awry massive job lot of parts were sold off and some people had ware houses full of them for maybe a dime on the dollar .I suspect she was one of those people .

I got the new rings for the PM55 yesterday from Mark (thanks Mark!) & I installed them on the piston today.I also put a new crank seal on the PTO side & noticed later as I ran my finger through the old seal that it had a burr on the inside of it.Good thing I replaced it! I had my son torque down the bolts in the oil tank (I had knuckle replacement revision surgery back in mid-Aug.& I keep breaking the sutures).I'll probably fiddle with the points tomorrow for something to do.

Need to go though them and see exactly what’s what but I won an auction of 12 saws.
In the Mac group there’s a 1-7X saw, super 10-10, mini Mac, 5-10, 2 1-40’s one with oiler update and one with no oiler plus one more 10 series mac.

While getting that many saws in one shot would be awesome...I would not know where to start and would probably end up with all of them disassembled at the same time. :D
I’m thinking the echos may end up at a new home but we’ll see. Ones a 602vl and the other is a 701vl I’m pretty positive.

Restoration can often cause you to chase your tail in a manner of speaking .Finding replacement parts for a saw made 40 years is not an easy task .You reach a point where you're stuck then laying that saw aside you dig into another .Then maybe 3 years later find the parts then have to remember where the saw is hiding ..

Yeah well hopefully I’ll be able to source what I need to get the ones I want running and useable. Not sure any will get a full restoration but that’s not for certain either. The 1-7x is one I hope to get running odds are it’s just a 1-71 but can always hope it’s a 1-75 or 1-76 but the yellow air filter cover if original gives it away.

I've told about the two Partner p-100's I rebuilt ,one labled a McCulloch 1000 .It took me 1.5 to 2 years find or adapt the parts .I rebuilt both during the COVID lock down a couple of years ago .They turned out very well considering but since they have not seen enough run time to seat in the piston rings.
