Back on topic, I scrubbed down the last two Macs, cleaned out the solvent tank, and installed an air filter that showed up as part of a care package from Iowa. @Steve I kinda doubt it, whatever it was was loose under there for a little while, and none of the screw holes look like they had a screw violently ripped out of them

Attempting to get a few Macs etc running for an upcoming GTG .I did battle with one today and won .Mac 6-10 not t0 be confused with a PM 610 .This one has been massaged a bit with a larger Walbro SDC and the timing advanced .Too much actually I had to back it off some and install a D-handle before it yanked my fingers out of the joints . I had forgotten that carb has be set leaner than average because of the size .It cuts okay but barks real loud so I'm going to have to dial it in a tad to get those R's up because this one will scream when it's on it's pace . I know it's been 8- 10 years since I've had it started .

Have you managed to start the 6-10? It is the same motor that I mentioned that it reached 15,600 rpm. Make a video when you can. I would like to see it cut into the wood. Best regards

Curious as to what model carb you put on it? Mine has a fixed jet carb and it runs very well but im always mixing and matching stuff. Just wondering.

It's a Walbro SDC where the choke portion is larger than the main butter fly .In essence at speed it would kind of act like a vee stack . I have no idea what it came off of as I just found it in a coffee can full of carbs .I had to change the jets because of the way this model used spring loaded extension rods so the carb could be tuned from out side the air box .Might sound untrue but this little go getter will dead stick at over 15,000 and cut just about as well as a stock 372 Husky .This thing was made over 50 years ago . It's a shelf queen I only break out for GTG's .
With a points ignition the factory setting is .018 " .Opening them up a little you can get maybe over 30 degrees advanced over the stock 26 degree advance I've got them set right now at .020 but had them at .023-.024 and that little rascal tried to pull my fingers off .

Getting things around I have another one giving me fits .It's a Mac super 44a for some reason has no spark .That engine just happens to be one the original go kart engine came from as it morphed into the MC 10 .I bypassed the air vane governor and let it rev and it's surprised a lot of people .Consider the fact that one comes from 1958-59 time period .That one is a beech to start being a righty with a hold down choke .I stick it with a little screw driver .One of many shelf queens for the most part .It just tickles me at GTG's seeing the look on peoples faces who have never seen a well tuned antique Mac .

Rambling on I also have a 650 gear drive that also uses an 87 cc reed engine .It's a 2 to one reduction and that one dead sticks at over 9,000 RPM .With a good sharp 1/2" chain it throws big fluffies like a wood planer .Unlike most gear drives this one is not slow .I think it was about the end of an era for gear drives
The 650 and the avatar saw, a 2100S Homelite I'm about certain most people in Ohio have never seen because of both I've only seen one other of the Homey and the Mac only mine .If I'm correct the 650 was only made for about 1 year,1966
Those plus a 125 Mac and a 2100 CD Husky rounds out what I think I'm going to take .I'm not into racing any more which is not to say I don't like fast saws .

I picked up a PM55 the other day on Feebay for a pretty good price ($90).It needs work done, ther seller said it won't turn over.I'm hoping it's a recoil issue,if not I bough a PM55 engine for it for $70 that's supposed to be good.I should have both by week's end.I'll go through the saw when I get it to see what it needs, but can't go into it full bore as I'm having back surgery in 2 weeks.I figure this to be a winter project.

Thanks but I'm not concerned about any speed runs . I've been doing battle with a Mac super 44A that seems to be winning .Dead short on the coil ,swapped the coil from a 250 and a condenser from a Ferguson tractor and got spark .All the plugs I had were carbon fouled .Ordered another 10 Champions .Some how I misplaced my spark plug sand blaster .These danged old early right hand starts are not mechanic friendly to work on .
As far as speed runs the only class I stand a chance in is maybe 0 to 80 cc with a souped up Stihl 038 Mag but I'm giving up 1/2 a cubic inch .Other than the normal 0-100 cc , evidently it's 0-95 cc so with that in mind my 2100 Husky is over that displacement .If it's 0-80 cc and a bigger piece of wood perhaps the Mac 805 would stand a chance .On a 9 inch cant it would not .That saw is fast but not like a Husqvarna or a souped Stihl 460 .No matter it's a fun thing not the Indy 500 .

I started scrubbing some light oxidation off the CP recoil base and, well, it was a little worse than I thought. Should I just JB weld it and re-paint it or do I need to have the leg professionally welded up?

Between the events and trips to my brother's place in Wisconsin I'm not getting a lot done lately.

Unfortunately I'm fresh out of donors, but as soon as I teach my buddy how to weld Mag I'll see if he can put a few beads on it and patch it up. Otherwise, I know of a 380 I can cannibalize.
