IMHO, yes.
Not out a lot of money.
If the throttle cable is still in one piece, your already winning.
The plastic jacket can break, and they wont throttle up is what I'm hearing.
Replacement cables can be had.
Also heard theres a lot going on in the air box where all the cables and fuel lines converge, which makes them a little difficult to work on.
If you have a little patience, it might make a good limbing/fence riding saw for you.
Ive also heard they were stout little saws.
Ive got a Super Pro 40. Not exactly the same, but its a stout little saw for its size.
Yup, cable is intact, you are right about the Rubiks cube of the carb/intake box. I was able to disassemble, replace the fuel line, and reinstall the carb. A third hand of minute proportions would have been handy, or a small mechanically inclined child. Neither was available.

This little saw will fit in nicely to my 8 saw, 3 saw plan!

For a $10 investment you'll have a little ripper.great power to weigh ratio,& like Dream said, they're a great limbing saw.I've recently been using my Stihl MS250 & put up against a Mac or Homie of the same ccs or less it's gutless. The MS250 is 45cc (I believe) & the 300 series saws are 34cc.The PM310,320,330 will cut circles around the Stihl. The Stihl was supposed to come with an 18 in.bar & chain.I can't imagine it having one that long on it.I had the dealer put a 14 in.bar on it.The Mac 300 series saws came with either a 14 or 16 in.bar on them & they handle either with ease.

There is something wrong with your ms250 Ed. Mine is bone stock and will eat oak all day long with a 18" .325 full chisel buried.

Back about 3 yrs.ago I had to replace the carb on mine & it hasn't been right since then.I just got it out last week & re-tunede the carb somewhat.I had to turn the lo in a bit (about 1/4 turn) to get it to cut better. It had no power before the re-tune.I'm afraid of leaning it too much.Cutting season is done for me now.I'll have to wait till next yr.

Got the carb kit for the little McCulloch today (310) and that was all it took to get it running. Chain is dull, but it runs and oils good.

Carb went off and on much easier this time. Is it ok to run 40:1, and if so, which oil is the best?:pancarta:

40:1 wont hurt. Mac manuals call for 40:1 with their oil. I personally run 32:1 just because i do. All oils are better than they were 50 yrs ago. Just mix it so you have proper lubrication and ignition.

Yesterday was a day for the big boys.My neighbor/friend had a maple tree that we worked on several yrs.ago before I started collecting saws.I didn't have anything bigger than a Timber Bear with a 20 in.bar.The tree was rotting away at the base & he managed to pull it over with his truck last yr.& it has laid there on the ground since. My arsenal yesterday was a Homie XP-1000 (30 in.bar),SP81 (28 in.bar),DE80 (24 in.bar),& SP125 (36 in.bar)I managed to make the first few cuts with the SP81 & the Homie XP-1000,then had to swith to the SP125.Even the SP125 had to come in from both sides. The chain was pretty well shot & whoever did the sharpening on it didn't do a very good job at all.I had a brand new chain at home & had to come back & get it only to find out that when I got it from Bob J.4 yrs.ago he gave me the wrong chain.I have no idea what a 65B chain is,but it's not a .404 chain. It won't fit in the rails of the bar,the drivers are too wide.I believe it's an .080 chain. If anyone is interested in buying it I'll sell it for just what I paid for it - $36 + shipping.
Now I have to get a new chain that actually fits the bar & get the tree cut up before July.

I did some research on the chain that Bob J.made for me & it's a Sandvik 63B which is supposed to be a .404 pitch chain, but it won't fit in the rails on my bar for the SP125.The saw previously had an Oregon 52 on it,which is a .404 pitch chain.I don't understand why it won't fit in the rails.

How many drive links Ed? , I ve got 2 loops of 52 Oregon for a 36" bar.
52 is .063 guage but alot of OEM McCulloch bars were .058.

I'd have to count the DL again Ira,but IIRC it was 117 (I could be wrong about that,it's been over 4 yrs.).I did however find the problem as to why the Sandvik chain wouldn't fit in the rails - the rails were so full of old dirt & oil that the drivers couldn't fit in the rails. After I cleaned the rails out the chain fit in perfectly. The old drivers from the old chain must've been really worn.I got the chain on with a bit of cussing & fired up the saw & gave the chain some oil & it's going to work just fine.
I'd still be interested in that 52 chain Ira if you don't have a need for it.Send me a PM with some pics & a price.

Guys I need some input. I started tearing down one of my SP81's last night and finally finished it today. I found this issue. There are grooves/marks on the cylinder side where the crankshaft bearings lay. I am not sure if this is from the factory casting although I would suspect not. I can not feel material protruding upward as if someone gouged this surface trying to get the block apart, but at this point I am not sure. Do you guys feel this is an issue for future use of this cylinder or is there a fix of sorts for this? Thabk you for any input.
