Man I have no idea what a persons skill levels are. Mine are just about as much as a tool and die maker although I made my living as an electrician .I can only suggest what might work .Then I'm done with it .

Al,sometimes I just don't know when to quit,Lol.
I just cant help wondering if its been tapped out to an 18mm for a larger old style plug Ed.
Do you have an old plug lying around that you could try? I cant remember what used those large thread plugs, but maybe old Wisconsin motors and old tractors?

I may be mistaken but I think my Mac super 44a has the larger plug .I do know I had to buy a long reach scrench to take it out .The fit near the cooling fins is so close only a thin scrench will fit in .As far as the 18 MM plugs they were standard for lots of things for decades .Fact my 1977 Ford f-250 that lives in my woods has M18's in the 300 in line 6 engine .--look at the difference

That sounds about right Al, I have a Super 55 and a 1-70 and those take the larger spark plug. Have any photos of that '77 F-250?

That's a possibility I haven't thought of - the cylinder already being tapped out to 18mm.What would an 18mm plug equivalent be to a Champion DJ8?I could get an 18mm plug for $5 & try it.

What you'd need to check is how much reach it has .Most likely if you searched you could find a chart on Champions .Fact last summer I had to cross Champion with AC to find a set of plugs for my Oliver dozer which had a much longer length from the base to the nut than the D-16 in the picture which is for a Ferguson TO-20 tractor . These old style plugs some times are not easy to find .If I get a chance today I'll get a pic from the Mac super 44A . I might add a long time ago they had a larger plug with 7/8" threads .Might have been model A Ford or something ???

The Champion 843 is a CJ8 plug, that was attached to the plug wire & it fell in & out of the boss.As far as I know the CJ8 is a 14mm.plug.

Ngk 2910 is about the only plug that may work in your cylinder. 18mm short reach but normal height.

If it's worth it to you Ed you can ship the cylinder to me and I can maybe work some magic with it.

Yes you are correct and I was wrong .In spite of half a dozen old saws including a model 12 Mall ,a David Bradley 360 and a Clinton d-55 all I found were 14 MM plugs .Then after four 8 HP Briggs and two 5 HP they all had M14 plugs .I've got one more to check and it has a power products AH 58 engine but I can't find it .All the old McCullochs had M14 plugs . The great spark plug mystery saga is yet unsolved . I might add a CJ 8 is indeed 14 mm which is what the Mac super 44A had .

I might just take you up on that offer Steve.I'll try the NGK plug first.I'd like it to have the same heat range as a DJ8 or a Bosch HS8E.I'll let you know how things work out.

Al,I think that CJ8 in your D44A is not correct (I may be wrong). If I'm not mistaken the D44A used a J8J (which are difficult to find ) & can be replaced by a J8C.The CJ8 has the same heat range,so you're good there.

The heat range is the least of your worries and a moot point sense the plug dynamics are no longer any where close to what it left the factory as. Plus, it's a chainsaw, Not a formula 1 car. Lol!

Hello everyone. New here not sure what I’m doing yet. Really enjoying this thread, I found it while googling parts for this Super 33 I just finished.some Incredible collections posted here! I picked this saw up about a year ago, and a few parts saws later here we are! I’ve still got a few things left to do on it, but I’m pleased with my first restoration. Keeping an eye out for some 1/2” .058 pintail chain, pretty scarce

Heat range, now a story .Decades ago when I was pulling antique farm stock with a John-Deere A I had the bright idea I needed a hot plug .I bought a pair of aviation plugs to the tune of $18 a pop .Well that didn't work .

The Super 33 is a good looking saw to begin with, you have done a really nice job of applying the special touch here and there.

You are correct, 1/2" pitch Pin Tail chain is very hard to find, in fact most any 1/2" pitch chain is becoming quite scarce.

I have a 35A that my brother picked up NIB, nice display unit.
