I'll give you 2 bottles of this and give the saw a ride in a Boeing :godsdrink0nw:View attachment 49434
I don't drink anymore, but if you want i will give you the guys contact info. You will have to find him in person, and he will quarenteeee that you will leave with a saw you don't have in trade for Wild turkey.
You have to find him in person, early enough in the day so the Wild Turkey hasn't been consumed.I hope he will be around next summer so i can visit again now that i know the admission. He shot at a neighbor last summer so he may be on holidays for awhile. He does have a pile of desirable chainsaw stuff, alcohol saws silvey swing arm, ect.

I had never thought about replacing the crankshaft.Might work .
This I do know something like an 850 cylinder on an 805 bottom the tabs holding the mag coil need filed down a tad because coil doesn't align with the magnets.Weather that's the cylinder, the crankshaft stub end length ,don't know .

Weather the 8200 uses different cylinder sizes I can't say .I'd have thought being made at that late of a date by then they should have had the proceedure more refined where they could hit size repeatively in the process .

All this would only be speculation as I've never seen an 8200 and certainly never one dissasembled .Nothing is impossible ,forge ahead .

Darin - I don't have the numbers in front of me but those bearings are very standard, could be a 6203 maybe. Just take one to a local bearing shop and they will have them on the shelf. Make sure to get a good one, normally for saws you would choose a C3 fit as they have a little extra clearance to help deal with the heat.

Mark
6203/C3 made in Italy.

So does anyone know offhand if the PM8200 actually had a problem that caused piston failures..., like a known weak point allowing an air leak? I think I've only known of one so far that wasn't acquired with a scored piston. Maybe that's why they're like hen's teeth to find.

I'm not sure about the piston .I know towards the end some of the plating wasn't so good . It might have had something to do with Apartite or whatever it was called from some African country where the hard chrome came from.Chrome on car bumpers weren't worth a pinch of coon chit either. One reason they stopped making them .

For that matter I doubt many 8200's were made because if memory serves Mac as we knew it circled the drain in 98 or so .

I haven't torn it down yet to investigate. In SP81 territory now as my first total Mac rebuild project. Been pickin' up Macs here and there over the years figuring I'd get to em someday..., which has finally arrived. The PM8200 is one of the nicer shape saws out of the bunch and would be cool to revive. Guess I'll just keep looking for a piston. One's gotta pop up sooner or later, hopefully.

Well another brain storm .I've got a trashed piston I screwed up when I straight gassed the 805 from just a prime. It just happened .Now I wonder since the 8200 has the bearing in the rod and if the rod has enough clearance if you used an 850 piston with the 8200 crank with the bearing and if the piston to deck clearance is the same if that would work .I really don't know.

Somebody might know .Talk it over and if it might work and if I could get the old piston off the rod which I've never done on a ten series I could mail it to you .This is kind of uncharted territory . I could measure the piston before hand to get some idea if it's even possible .With any luck I'll try to get on it next week.Gotta find it first .

I tend toward plain and simple, then bending it to fit my use.

No! I got out of the scooter stuff years ago .I sold my last one a 90 thou over bore iron engine Harley sportster ,chopper .Fast ,loud dangerous .
I had a tendency of trying to outrun my gardian angel .Never had a scoot I wasn't compelled to see how fast it would go.
All I have left of the Indians are some engine parts from a 500CC vertical twin I had in high school .

I came to a cross road in life .Two children to raise and me being about half crazy the bikes had to go .Now in life I could buy anything my heart desired and pay cash for it and never miss the money .It's in the past, can't go there any more ,only in my memories .

Look at the Mac thread on AS and start on posts number 17053. There are some pics I put up several years back.

I started a little earlier in the thread while I was back in the 2012 time warp. A very informative read on the "A", "B", "C" piston designations relative to the "C-Case". And btw, that thumb drive you sent me a couple of years ago is coming in real handy right about now!

As far as possibly using an earlier 82cc piston adapted to the 8200 rod and wrist pin design, my biggest question is how would the circlips be retained if indeed an earlier piston could otherwise fit? Is there enough recess in the windows relative to the piston diameter for them in a groove on a wrist pin vs. a groove in the piston boss? Sorta looks like it from the pics you referenced on AS, though I'm not sure how well such an approach would hold up if going that route would even be possible.

Regardless, I certainly appreciate the input. Thanks.

If the piston is a good match for the cylinder, I don't see how you could do it less you also use an earlier version connecting rod a crank shaft. It's just been too long since I've had one apart to be sure. The 8200 and I have still runs good and is in the rotation for firewood

My best bet is probably to just wait out finding the right piston..., providing I don't need a cylinder too. Oh well, onward with the SP81 rebuild for now.

I was sure I wrote a long reply to this thread including a price and source for the PM8200 piston, guess I must have said something I shouldn't have...

I recall you linking me to one on AS back when I acquired the saw. I think it may have been the same source as a link Tim sent me last evening...., except it was only $87.00 then. A little more now. Ouch.
