Yep. There is also a later variant with only one thrust washer between the sprocket and case on rim drive setups. I'd post another pic but don't want to overly annoy anyone. LOL

Sorry you feel neglected 'over there', Ed. Was just doing a little research on your muffler issue for you.

FWIW, and from what I can see of the muffler in your pic, it looks like a plain square style that would either have just a baffle or maybe both a baffle and a spark screen. I'd ditch both if it were mine, but the baffle is likely 85152 if you're hell bent on using one.

I've got everything he needs. Way cheaper too.

Thanks Poge! The only thing with the muffler IPL is I don't have the part #.I have the IPLs for Mac 10-10A 1967 & 1972 & they don't show this muffler style, only the pancake muffler. However it does look like this style muffler was used on the 2-10 as well. The part # for the baffle is 62379A or 62379B,depending on what yr.IPL I look at.Correct me if I'm wrong.

That muffler duct/body (83105) was used on many 10 series saws all the way up to the 10-10S and used the same basic baffle with a couple different covers. The 62379 part number is an old one with the baffle evidently even being deleted for a time until re-introduced as the common 85152. There's also what appears to be one last variant used on the 10-10S as a snazzy spark arresting version with a six digit part number, 223451 -- still with the original 83105 duct/body.

All that said, I wouldn't waste much time (or money) chasing a baffle for a 10 series muffler, myself. I'd rather have the air flow -- and the sound. But hell, you may even have one laying around somewhere in all your stuff if you look hard enough.

Good luck with it.

Performance wise that is the best muffler because it's the least restrictive .However with the baffle removed will make dogs howl .

Yes Al,you are correct,it also makes your ears bleed.I had my first 10-10A that didn't have the baffle in it.I was so excited to have gotten the saw running finally.I took it out back to cut down an old pear tree & all I can say was holy sh*t! My ears actually hurt.

Poge,I wouldn't spend that much on a baffle.I've got one ordered from Bob J.& working on another one from Steve. Thanks for your help, much appreciated!

I have a curved bottom muffler from 10-10 on my 6-10 .Fact it's either an SP 81 or an early 850 engine stuffed under the shrouding of an 805 has one also .I'd have to look at the IPL but I think the smaller 10-10 might have only had one baffle ,which of course is absent and the 850 might have had two .Now only one .As far as the "reed " covers. I've yet to see one that wasn't rusted shut .However most of these things had sat for decades unused .----and then along came Al----

I have a spark screen for the muffler somewhere? That would quiet it down probably.

That's OKK Ira,I've got a baffle coming from Bobn J.& Steve is going to look to see if he has another one for another saw I'll be working on this fall/winter.I don't really care too much for the spark arrestor screens anyway as I think they're too restrictive.Thankls for the offer though, much appreciated!

Got a nice little pickup today. Second owner cp125. Looks like the muffler burnt out and blew back onto the cylinder, causing some light transfer. Looks like it actually melted a couple of the fins.
what is the best way to fix the wallowed out cp style decomp on these?

Excellent, Mr. FB - it looks like you need a muffler and some other smalls?

On the decomp fix - you may need to get either a plug or a new DSP shaft machined at a shop.

I have one that's similar and my plan is to plug it and run without the compression release.

That is pretty well what I was figuring.
I think a good cleanup of the cylinder will be good, but may try to get it bored to clean it up completely, and see if I can find a piston for it. Definitely needs a muffler

I can help with a muffler for sure. Is the bore size stock now? I know Terry has saw pistons in .006" and .008" over.

It looks like you got the good carburetor too.

Yeah, I did get the good carb sdc20. I’m pretty sure the cylinder bore is still stock….no stamps on the block anyway. a few other little issues…clutch spring is broken, and looks like the starter cover has been welded on a few times.

Nice score! Sometimes a new decomp pin will tighten it up, and usually they still seal up with some wear. What style cylinder? Early or late style, what does the boost port boss look like?
