You can make a 70 cc Mac run but my goodness it's so much easier with a Stihl or Husky .I guess the challenge accounts for something .If it wasn't fun I wouldn't do it .

Seems like porting and timing advance would be close to same as most modern piston ported saws, just a little more involved to get to. Compression enhancement would be a different animal die to the clamshell design. Would have to have/make a piston or stroke it with a longer rod if that was possible.
At least muffler mods are easy. Step one. Remove deflector. Step 2. Let er rip.:b1:

I really had no idea what to do with the porting other than thought about maybe two more small transfers near the center of the piston travel above the intake port .Boost ports or whatever you would call them .The 6-10 was really the only Mac I ever tried to enhance other than doing some stuff to the mufflers .My word even an 80 cc reed valve Mac can blow your ear drums out with a gutted muffler .
As it is I just use the big reeders for what they were designed for,big wood which it's seldom I get into .On that they do shine

The seller wont go less than $80 plus the $28 shipping I'm not sure it's worth it. Especially for a non runner that may turn out to just be another 54cc saw.

So I bought this thing..... not 100% sure what I have but I'm thinking it's a 6-10. No auto oiler, first 10 series I've seen without, SDC carb, pro mac style tank, and it is definitely 70cc, pulled the muffler to verify. Good news though, it runs!!! Will need some minor stuff.

Should be an SDC. Early ones had a McC logo on the fuel pump cover. Otherwise it would be a tillotson HS. But those did not come untill the LHS 7-10.

Sorry, my wording was poor. It is an SDC. I meant it is the the first 10 series I've seen without an auto oiler.

Most all the early yellow top 10 series where manual oil only. Easily converted by installing an auto pump.

Well the fuel tank gasket swelled up sitting over night and is sealing so I grabbed a 20 inch bar off the wall and spun a loop of chain for it and took it out and sunk it in 24" oak log. A couple twists of the screws and it singing like a Mac should. I think I did ok for $100.
I would like to swap in an automatic oil pump especially if I plan to use it regular. I'm assuming I need a 3 bolt aluminum body pump?

Cool beans.

Certainly preferable if the tank is threaded for it. I was surprised your 7-10 was. My SP81 isn't and has the spring clip instead.
I drilled the 7-10 for the other two screws. So far, all of the RH start saws I've had here where 3 bolt.

You can use the plastic body pumps as they are also threaded for 3 bolt install. You just cant crank down the screws like a gorilla!:D

The pm700 @Gizzard has uses a plastic pump i drilled for 3 bolt install.

Maybe I’m just not used to how old saws look worn out. I’m used to clean, shiny modern saws lol.
All seriousness though, modern saws use a lot of died plastics that hold there color through use and abuse. These old saws where all painted metal and the paint was just industrial enamel and not known for its durability. Make no mistake about it, I have some seriously ugly Macs that will run right alongside any modern saw.
This particular saw appears to have sat in a windowsill for an extended period of time hence the fading on the recoil and bar side of the fuel tank.

This one cleaned up nicely. It was a gift from someone that saw my McCulloch collectors card on a bulletin board in a local industrial supply shop.

I really like the throw back sticker they put on this one.

I was able to find a NOS but slightly aged black and yellow bar to put on this one. It will look good over in the museum.

I know there is a "don't judge a book by its cover" lesson about to happen here! Stay tuned. :D[/QUOTE

I have one ol lh start 10-10 that have stole parts from several times for other 10 series. Poor engine has had all kinds of different covers on it. One of strongest engines I have though. Doesn’t care what it’s cover looks like.

Just a quick note to let you guys know it's still me, Kevin. I realized I spelled my own name wrong in my user ID so I created a new account. Looks better now lol.
I'm pretty pleased with that 6-10. Went out tonight to try a cold start. Fired in one pull on choke, pushed in the choke and running on the second pull.

I just assumed most 10 series saws all had auto oilers .I've got the bones of a few early 10-10's righties I robbed the cranks from .I'll have to check them out .
