Some one gave me a McCulloch Timber Bear a while ago, it's in rough shape and I was wondering if it is worth trying to rebuild. I know nothing about McCulloch saws but I do like projects, but if its not worth anything I guess it can sit in the shed until someone else has a use for it.

Depends .It's a rather heavy 60 cc saw that's nearly bullet proof .I'm not certain you could kill one unless you get stingy with the oil in the gasoline .

I'm working on a PM 650.
Timber Bear family.
Pretty easy to work on. Fuel line is just normal size instead of a molded line. Easy to get to. I ignition kill switch lead is prone to rubbing the flywheel if not secured, and both of the ones I looked at had come loose from the switch. Carb is easy to remove, so shouldnt be hard to get going. Even oiler pump can ne taken off just by removing the filter cover.
If that's your issue, the guy Mark Heimann mentioned above may have what you need.
These arent desirable to collect, and they are heavy and unwieldy as Al said. They would make for a reliable firewood cutter or farm saw.

Cool thanks guys. I have some good reliable work saws. One of these days when I get bored I will open it up and see what the problem is.

If I'm not mistaken the PM 610 was the first McCulloch made that was metric .It isn't a big deal now but in the early 80's not all that easy to find those afore mentioned bolts that rattled loose .
I've got three of them in my shed, mine ,my fathers and one that looks brand new I bought for my son .The later had a bad coil ,had the original chain that had never been filed .Flea bay cheapie .

I could be wrong, but I think the PM6 saws were all equipped with the Walbro MDC, the Zama did not show up until the later Mini Mac models.

It looks one of a kind model. Has the pump and metering on the same side. Same as a Tilly HL setup.

I could do that or maybe work it to Dub too. You still have a pic of that setup on saw when you had it in use? I still just have the setup in my parts stash.

I never put a v stack on 10-10 if that's what your asking.

Finally got the parts washer up and running. Brush and hose from us maker.
Was made to go over the nozzle on a standard washer. Mine was made with a side pump. Hose only. Put a hose clamp on and works fine. Went with the fluid TSC sells. Low odor. High flash point. Pump has good pressure. "Filter system" seems to work well. Will keep y'all posted. 0222201100.jpg 0224202213.jpg 0224202215.jpg

More times that not that commercial solvent is nothing but kerosene with a fire retardant .Commercial "honing oil" used in the automotive industry is exactly the same stuff .--just saying .

Havent had a chance to use it yet. Work is keeping me busy right now.
I had a chance to buy some mineral spirits from my sons friends boss. They buy it by the 55 gallon drum. I know it would have worked just as well, but it had a strong odor. My 20' x 24' freestanding garage has an attached lean to where my wife and I hang out in the evenings. I was afraid the fumes from the parts washer would get over to the other side.
No problems with this stuff, and I now have two nice steel 5 gallon cans I can use for various things, including straining and holding the cleaning fluid when I have to drain and clean the washer.
I did get a chance to put the carb kit in the PM700 this evening and get the carb reinstalled on the saw. Put some Fuel in and will let sit for a day. No leaks so far after resealing the tank gasket. Hope to get to start and tune one evening this week. Be good to have my big horse back ready to plow.

I am still working on getting saws cleaned up to move over to the museum, I finished up this 35A and a 33 so far this week.

I tried an oil filter on the parts washer a while back but it was too fine and would plug up in minutes. Someone suggested this water filter, the initial 20 micron filter was also fine but the 150 micron screen seems to work quite well.
