This is what you want Wayne. Dont mess around with sealants...

https://www.ebay.com/itm/223348322555

That would be the quickest & lowest amount repair time. I would not recommend most sealants either like the JB, seal all, perma weld, as they get hard and troublesome getting stuff apart for repair work. If use some sealer would opt for non-hardening like Dirko & some others.

The Red-Kote is like putting a liner inside tank and does not cost much at all for a little 10 series tank, however more time consuming than just replacing gasket.

With being thrifty, I've tried lot of sealers and other and like steve mentions would just use the new viton gasket or red-kote after many trial & errors.

Dub, I like that seal all pretty well, but never used it on the tank seal on 10 series. You may just have to give up and trade me that thing for some red johnny reb saw...

This year planning to Red-Kote one of my j-reds. Used seal all several times on it and after about 3 or 4 th use it wants to pop or vibrate loose in different locations. Tried sanding and acetone before applying, but can't get it to stay long term. Had same issue on an 034 Stihl fuel tank with seal all that after a few times of use it would spring a leak. Darn good running saw, but finally let that fuel running all the place affect my thinking one day and let a guy talk me out of it.

Saw ain't mine but what Jred you talking about?

Steve,
Your messing up my trade with Dub/Wayne...
lol

Thanks @Steve

Yeah those two "options" I mentioned earlier were out of the question for me. The guy that did the JB weld fix blew me away, but I guess if they are disabled and not used for wood cutting then its all right.

I'm not a fan fan of sealants replacing gaskets .However in a pinch good old Permatex number two would get it done .Be advised however that chit will get all over everything . Rubbing alcohol will take it off .Gasoline won't .

I knew you liked them red ones so was just prodding you. Sorry about that. I love the macs as years back father had a mac dealership, always liked running them, and attending mac service training classes got more Kool-aid into my system.

For more modern saws I run the 510, 520, 525 jonsered series and 2051 series. Probably shouldn't go on whim with those for ol ' yellow iron.

Good thing I have access to the good alcohol at work.

I don't have any of them models lol.

The guy brought me 2 10-10s. Ones an S and the other is the older one with the funky air filter. I told him I'd get the S going but not the other one since I've heard tale the filter is hard to find.

Might have to work a little deal for that older one now lol.

Do you make some kind of adapter for the newer filters to fit the old air boxes?

I guess I mean an adapter for the smaller flat filters to fit the domed style air box/covers.

I could do that or maybe work it to Dub too. You still have a pic of that setup on saw when you had it in use? I still just have the setup in my parts stash.

Sawzilla sells the Viton fuel tank gaskets for the 10 Series, $10 + shipping...that is hard to beat.

Here is the 39 cleaned up and on the floor in the display area in the museum. The biggest difference I can see between the 39 and the later model Super 33 saws is that the 39 has a somewhat deeper fuel tank. Look carefully and you can see that the tank bottom is about 3/4"deep where the other are about 1/4" deep. The other notable difference is the 39 has 35A style manual oiler.

Here is a late model Super 33 I finished up today...before and after. See that the later models had the full length air filter like the 35 and 39 saws. This one also has the "clutch cover" over the sprocket like the 39.

20200211_165437.jpg

20200211_165459.jpg

All cleaned up. I spent maybe 15 minutes with the DA sander and 80 grit paper to clean up the bar.

20200212_125004.jpg

Most of the discoloration on the bar below is just reflection.

20200212_125034.jpg

This is the 33 I showed earlier without a bar. I ended up with a 16" bar since someone had replaced the gearbox with one from a later saw that has 3/8" bar studs and the early ones including my 12" bar were set up for 5/16" studs.
