Is that to reseed, or add organic matter? Do the cows trample it in? Just curious the reason for it, I am intrigued.

This field was over head high with weeds and sumac trees. I bush hogged it a few times, and have been just letting the cows run on it. Now I'm unrolling first cutting hay on it to seed it. They stomp the seed in the ground, and add manure. I use my tedder to spread the manure around after a few days in each row.

Is there a bale unroller, or do you just roll it down the hill so it unrolls itself? I have too many round bales from last year, and would like to do something positive with them. This unrolling thing might just be the ticket.

I use a bale unroller.

Just looked into them, going to cobble something up instead of buying one. I only have round bales because the neighbor thought there was too many weeds for his cows. My goats seem to like it. Thanks for the info.

Lots of 3pt unrollers & bale bed unrollers for pickups.

There are a couple of fellas that mounted a pair or 15-16” tires to the front of tractors & pickups & use the rolling tires to unroll the bales.

I bought this one barely used, but with a bad cylinder for 400.00. Rebuilt the cylinder for 25.00.

C202B781-D977-450B-BC20-7A4D81F67C98.jpeg This one tripped me out the other day. Both ends are welded. In order to get the ram out you’ve gotta slip that little snap ring into the groove through the fitting the hose screws into. Then it’ll pull out. Then put back together and slip ring back up into the other groove. Had to make a phone call on that one

That’s the way the lift cylinder is on our massey is
We have a local hydraulic shop that we get stuff from or have him rebuild it. Is reasonable too

Just unrolled 3 bales using the gravity method. Forgot I don't have any flat land except where the house and barn are. Rolled them down, grabbed the core and bring it back up the hill. Rinse/repeat. Having that little articulating tractor with the front end loader hay spear helps too. Goats were all over the unrolled bales too. I think we may have a winner. Thanks all, I appreciate learning new stuff.

We have plenty of hills to unroll bales
I think they waste less also
That’s what we did when we had to buy some extra hay
Since , that’s kinda how I feed the stacks when I tear them apart with bobcat

That's a cool little machine Larry.
Handier than a pocket on a shirt Randy. I have the grapple, bucket, rake, post hole with 6 & 12" augers, a potato digger, and the mini hoe. (No, not a midget hooker). Not sure how I lived without it to be honest. Compliments my Deutz and Ferguson tractors well.

that is working brilliant easy way of reseeding without breaking the surface
And your putting the grass you want there for your future hay and grazing

When it’s good and dry here I sit the whole bake right on the ground. Trouble I have is it gets pretty wet here in the winter. You guys have good luck unrolling them if the ground is a little sticky? I have a feeder but they have sharp feet. Make a mess
