Bingo, I would add to this information and availability of said support products. It's like you joined a secret society and haven't been given the password to get through the door. Your dealer is God and if he's a dick, you're S O L.

This, exactly. Why should I be a subject to the Stihlership when I can have anything I need from Echo and even Dolmar sent right to my door for less?

Consumers have and always will pay a premium for STIHL products.
Now.....I could see paying top dollar for a good product, as long as replacement/consumable parts were reasonable. That’s just not the case.
I got almost 25 years out of my Stihl 029. Did very minor maintenance during that time. Never, ever had an issue. What more could you ask for? Cut a lot of wood with that too.
Win, win as far as I am concerned. Only did muffler mod and tuned carb over the years.

I’d much rather have a echo 590 for the same money as a farm boss honestly.

I have a love/hate relationship with stihl, my dealer is so good to me I stay loyal to those guys...if he was a dick there is no doubt I'd go with another brand...I'd never buy something just because of the name.

A lot could be said for a Homelite XL-12 too.

Money can be a deciding factor for a lot of folks.

While we tease back and forth doing the Chevy-Ford thing, my real angst with Stihl isn't with the products they make, customer treatment is another story.

Anyone like them all? I like all the brands I currently have husky, stihl, and dolmar/Makita saws and have had several solo's there all great! The classic poulans and homelites and macs all look cool but I haven't owned any of them its a shame those brands are gone they were top of the line in there time and still great today but getting harder to find

Haven't met too many chainsaw's that I didn't like. ;)
