Stihl calls it an end cover. What you are saying is that I can swap that out with the end cover that was on the 064 carb. I thought about doing that, but it seems that all that port does on the 660 is feed into the air filter, which protects it from dirt, dust, etc. I had to make a small adjustment to the low-speed setscrew, well inside the range of the limiter. It was a pleasant surprise to hear that engine purr again.
That vent is for compensating dirty air filters according to stihl. Just to balance the diaphragm. Hm... Does your "filter base" has the corresponding to the "end cover"?

Yes, it does (item 15), a gasket. I left that in place. The filter base (16) squeezes against it like a vice when the two carb nuts (18) are tightened.

If your air filter plugs into that snorkel, there is no need to plug it, it just supposedly helps to compensate for a dirty filter. Most 044s do not have it, but all 440s do. If you are running a 440 or 460 carb on an 044 you can just plug the hole, or cover it with a cloth filter, otherwise dirt will get on the back side of your diaphragm.

I just got a “flat” impulse cover from a junk wj series carb for the newer WJ67 I was putting on the 064 hybred. It bolted right on and allowed the diaphragm to breathe with the small hole drilled in the corner. The carb box divider on the 064 didn’t have the snorkel provisions since it was a older one.

You can also cut the snorkle off, and fill it with epoxy orJB Weld. Just need to drill small vent hole

I was referring to the exact same cover that comes off the carb in question Mike. It has to fit, No?

Carb observation here. The original carb on an 064 AV simply would no longer start or continue to run the saw. I had an almost-new MS 660 carb (WJ-69) in my boneyard so I installed it instead. The saw started right up and runs beautifully. The end cover, of course is different, so I inserted a small piece of foam rubber in the port to help keep out dust and dirt. Anybody else tried this fix? WDYT?

Yeah that’s what you do when you run a V stack and don’t wanna change the metering cover out.

I’m a little bored tonight so thought I’d share my 064 with you all. I had to buy a new air filter cover so am considering a new cylinder shroud as well just so they match :). Can you attach the old metal 064 badges to a new cover?

Sure. Just need a rivot gun. I did it to my starter cover on my 066.

Is there a difference between the handle bar for an 066 and one for an MS660? I’ve got an 066 I’m putting together and tried to go with a cheap farmertec 660 handle but it seems way off (touching the brake handle). I’m not sure if it’s wrong, bent, or both.

066 and 660 are the same but a wrap handle might require a different brake handle for clearance

How did you attach it with a rivet gun? Got to do it to my starter cover as well
I bought the metal tag/plate and rivots from ebay. A local hardware store had the type of rivot device to attach it. I’d check with your local hardware store if they can help. Also, my local hardware store sells and repairs Stihl chainsaws.
