Didn’t see a “definitive” thread on these saws specifically so I thought I’d start one. This is a place to post anything related to them, please post your findings, parts info, cuttin videos ect.... and whatever :). I’ve had this 064 for a couple months and after some basic mods and minor repairs today was the first day I’ve really used it. Had some big oak to buck up and thought it would be appropriate for the 064. I can see why these things were such a legend back in there heyday. It’s about as fast as a hot 7900 in cut speed, but with mountains of torque to back up the chainspeed. Feels like I’m holding a slightly heavier 461 in the hands. AV and the filter system are rather dated, but they were good in its time. She likes her fuel as well, that’s why I named it Miss Piggy lol. Makes a nice racket with the loud exhaust and whining flywheel. Great saw with lots of character, puts a smile on your face. View attachment 198788
I loved 288s, never ran many 064s. Limited time on them. But I like those size saws. They never gained much popularity here, guys were stuck on the 056 mag design, thinking they were more durable. But that was old school not liking plastic. Me I couldnt wait to ditch my 056. But when the 066 came out all the guys here had one. I guess the 064 just didnt have the right exposure here, and maybe overall.

I just sent Bryce ( snowcat) a nice non decomp used oem
kolbenschmidt cyl for his build

I guess I should have been more explicit, I got mine from Bryce Stott over in Washington, Cheap Chainsaw Parts, he did have a good bit of NOS 064 parts and pieces , I did load up enough for my future build.

I rebuilt a 064 for a mate with the 92cc jug. Was there ever a dyno run with that jug? - It was more than he ever needed as all he cut was small wood.

Something like that, 64 vs 66, both stock with original dual port mufflers, 0.55 more HP for the 66.

Both have aftermarket ignition coils.

Imo I can only tell the difference between a 64 and 66 with a long bar. Like 32” plus. The 064 is definitely sportier with a shorter bar. A good 066 hybrid (064 chassis with 066 cylinder) outperforms both of them in my experiences. It’s got both rpm of the 64 and the torque of the 66. I think it’s similar to the 044 hybrid in that the smaller crankcase volume helps the performance.

The 066 from the dyno run is an early short case flat top, same case volume as some 064s I believe.

It has both more peak torque, power and Rpm than the comparison 064, better everywhere.

Sample of one of course, will dyno more 064s when time permits.
