"The mill bit has to be pulled out to the max in order to reach the workpiece!"

No, You dumb Fck!
You just need to utilize a longer tool holder.

The everyday idiocy at my workplace is shocking!

There was merely 1/2" of tool in the clamping collet.
This crap damages the collets and causes tooling to break prematurely - double points for twice the damage.
So, this is the ER32/200 tool holder I set up into one of our machines nearly 2 weeks back.

Last week they set up the same workpiece on another mill.
Whoever did it thought it prudent to cut a ER16/150 down to 75mm length and showe it into a ER32/160 tool holder to gain ~2" (50mm).

Apparently getting one of several brand new ER32/200 tool holders from storage was not an option!

I swear, I am surrounded by complete idiots at work.

The machine that got set up last week had a milled surface & hole out of specs by +2.1mm, tolerance is +/-0.25mm.
The machine I set up two weeks ago was out of spec by +0.8mm for the same milled surface & hole.

The first shift operators quality check list says within tolerance on both machines.

I guess I don't know how to take a measurement, I admit I am the idiot for even trying.

I don't have anything against the guy personally, we get along just fine. I'm just not sure why they took him back, what they think they are going to gain. I would think it's easier to just remain short staffed than to have someone with like a 50% chance (and that's being generous) of actually showing up.

The guy at my side job shop who got called out on the store group chat for taking too long in the bathroom and finally got canned for five no call no shows in a row just got hired back. The definition of insanity is...

My company does the same thing. Kind of a kick in the sack for the guy that shows up early every day, is reliable, and knows how to do the job well. If I didn't have 20 years in I'd just find something else.

The entire no-show chit is ridiculous. A couple years back Jim and I were training a guy to be our "third man" He rarely made it to the pre-shift meeting and had tons of no shows. They hired him a week before Memorial Day. Right away Memorial Weekend he missed the Friday or Tuesday so he lost pay for Monday. Fathers Day weekend (no holiday) he missed Monday because he was too high. We shut down for the entire week of the 4th of July. The company pays you 2 days of holiday pay. For the other three days you can come in and clean, take vacation, our take unpaid leave (not held against you). Of course to get the two paid days you have to be there the day before and the day after. The idiot misses one of the days. By the time Labor Day rolled around he was gone.

Most places I've been, there is seriously no reward for trying to be a career employee other than continued employment. Demonstrating loyalty to your company/agency/union doesn't get you chit. Ever hear the expression "be the change you want to see in the world?" Well, you have to be the change you want to see in your employment situation. It's a very hard lesson to learn, and I finally understand it at age 46.

You could become so good at what you do that they will do everything they can to retain you. Why let the competition have you?

Seems that most places don’t see things that way. There is this mentality that everyone is replaceable. View attachment 439200
That is unfortunate. I still don't know who won the Halloween costume contest at work. HR must still be stuffing their faces with candy.
