500k€ CNC mill half a year old.
Superior: just run it, we need those parts processed

Behind that curtain are all the machines innards and as a schooled metal worker I'd shut the machine down.
But truth be told I don't even care anymore, caring is not included in my paycheck which my superiors tend to remind me off all too often.

Lets spray some cast iron chips through that opening, production must go on!

High tensile ISO 12.9 grade M6x1.0 bolt.

"Hey look how I resolve the issue of needing a couple more threads - I just grind the unthreaded section down to 4mm!"

Idiots!

B O O O O M ! :risas3:

Programming error caused collision, punched right through the outer shell/housing of the mills main spindle.
Even an AP .50 cal would be impressed!

Couldn't get a better picture since the machine is shut down and it's dark (nightshift).
I also do not know how severe the damage is.

This is the 500k € machine.

Looks to be quite the dent in the machine enclosure. DMG Mori makes good stuff, but like any CNC, it will only run as well as it is setup and programmed.

I wish I had pictures of all my "good" crashes as an apprentice.

There is a 1" hole in the spindle housing, they crashed it good.

I don't like DMG too much, I prefer Hurco.

ROFLMAO :risas3:

They fixed the machine.
If You can't fix it with duck tape You are not using enough duck tape! 😂

The Z-axis cover isn't even an issue anymore...

How did they manage to punch that hole?!? If I had to guess, they had the head rotated 90 degrees clockwise and rapid traversed into part of the fixturing on the table?

I'm laughing at this on the other side of the world 🤣

Correct, smart man!
Someone specified a wrong axis swivel/rotation and ran the spindle right onto that center fixture bolt on the left side C-axis! :risas3:

I'd hesitate to call myself smart, but I know enough to get most of it done, eventually!

20190619_221946.jpg

Most of my CNC work the last few years has been making pump components in an Okuma turning center with their conversational control and live tooling. I like to compare the machine to a Swiss army knife; it's a decent lathe, but a lackluster mill, in the same way a Swiss army knife is a decent knife but a lousy scissors

Took a job for my church. Tearing down two 2-story homes. Bro and I and a PT truck driver.
We were on roof putting chimney bricks onto a chute that fed a truck. Car rolls in and 2 suits and a dress hop out. Traveling Religion salesman wanted to help us.
Told em we go church right there. They insisted they could help / save us.
Told em if you want to help, stack those brick. Oh no that's dangerous yada yada help you.
I said well stack those 16 fotters on the other truck. They yacked on and my Bro says, "if you really want to help us," Take us over to that Saloon and buy beers and sandwiches. They were still mumbling as they left.
We dragged up and went for a beer.

Even tuff dirty jobs can be fun.

Gonna be selling this mildly used C-axis brake, features nice deep grooves on all friction surfaces and a healthy mix of burnt oil and steel shavings. 😜

Someone increased pressure from ~650 to ~900 psi - it held for a while I guess.
The machine didn't stop due to the brake, but rather due to a gushing hydraulic seal.

The NEW replacement chiller blew up on the 500k € mill!
DMG service guy: You used the wrong antifreeze solution/aditive
Our people: You set the chiller up
DMG service guy: We have been having issues with those (external) chillers, they have a factory defect

So, they knew the chillers are defective, yet they supplied us with a replacement with the same issue hoping it wouldn't blow up.
What an intelligent world we are living in!

When it blew it completely soaked itself top to bottom in coolant fluid!

P.S.:
This machine is 6 months old, due to defects and summer vacation it ran no more than 4 months.
This is a brand new machine and it is crap!

I'd take a Hurco over a DMG anytime!

I'm the dumb a over here today.
On my list to buy is,
a voltmeter that does not have 88 optional settings and, the symbols have bigger fonts than 15 microns. Then I'm throwing this harbor frieght one in the river.
I suck at dc electrical as you can tell lol.

I have a cheap 10$ hardware store multimeter and it does everything I need it too, while featuring sufficient built in safety to survive the idiot at work set it to a wrong measurement setting.

My nephew is a good kid. Let's call him George because that is his name. George has two speeds. Sloth and sloth run over by a truck. He has been changing a wiring harness in a tractor. The job books for 13 hours. This includes removing the right rear duals for access. George has been slothing it for two weeks. The new term is Georgeiry.
