This is a good thread and I never paid any attention to, I’ll give it couple adds.
First off is a 572 that a dealer couldn’t make run. It’d run but the hotter it got its start cutting out, Husky kept telling them to change the carb, 4 new carbs and no fixy they gave the guy a new saw. It came to me in pieces, so I couldn’t pressure/vac test it. Upon assembly I noticed one ignition wire rubber bare so I repaired that, put it all together with no base gasket and a muffler mod and got it running to figure out what it was doing. Yup once hot it started cutting out. Ordered a new coil and boom ran great. So I decided to port it, and this was a learning experience for me after taking the cylinder off and raising the transfers 3 times it finally came to life. I’m not much for taking pictures and videos but I’m happy with it and I think Lee will be too.
Once a coil wire shorts out on those, it puts them into a limp mode and I don’t believe they can be fixed. I’ve seen 3 of them do it and they all needed a coil

Next saw was a 550 xpg I acquired with the flywheel side bearing out. Replaced the bearings, ported it with machine work with the el46 set up. Had the saw firmware flashed and got running. Sounded good, ran 1/2 a tank of fuel through it and got tight and died! I was so ! Took it back a part to find the flywheel bearing wiped out again. I was like WTH? I’ve done quite a few rebuilds and never had an issue before so after conversing with Kevin, EC, and Walt I found that one of the stuffers was distorted just enough not to allow the bearing to seat all the way. So I left the stuffers out. Put it back together but had an idling issue, always passes pressure/vac test. Tried a couple different carbs, still wouldn’t idle, ran good wouldn’t idle. Tried a different coil, same dam thing. Put the AT12 back on and still wouldn’t idle. All of the carbs and ignitions were used so I didn’t the know history of any of them. I just kept running it and after about the 5th tank of fuel it started to idle better and the more I ran it the better it kept getting. I’ve ran a couple gallons through it now and it’s all good so I’m assuming the auto tune had to relearn which don’t make sense since I had the firmware updated. I can’t explain it, but maybe someone else can. Anyway it’s running so good I can’t bring myself to try it again with the 562 carb.

That would make sense then, it’s a dam tight bend where it goes into the carb box, it’s no wonder it gets pinched there!

As long as it’s inside that grommet correctly it’s good to go. Even dealerships have trouble installing them properly

The dealer never had the coil off this that I know of, thinking it wasn’t assembled properly from the factory. It wasn’t in the grommet as needed

Today's cut report is a new Stihl 201 that I lightly modified and named the Super line to differentiate itself from the Special ported saws that I do. The response is so good it's hard to justify the extra $$$ for a full woods port. The new 201 is cutting quite well and is now a fine replacement for the venerable 200T. If only we could get our hands on some more of this fine product from Stihl, probably the last one I'll see for a while. :(

Sometimes you aren't always able to get a cut report, as you only have a partial saw or just a cylinder to work with. I try and get feedback later if possible and sometimes run into the saws at a gtg and finally get to run them, which is always nice.
So in this instance, I just have to wait.

Well here is the above saw "Scarface" all put together. It started as a very like new 350 that ingested the brass bushing in the intake boot. Upgrades are 455 Rancher clutch cover, 357/359 starter pulley, and Oregon rim drive clutch drum. There is a couple things that may need to be addressed with these upgrades. The rancher clutch cover might need longer bar studs, the bar nuts only go about 1/2 way on the threads. The rim drive, you have to use the 350 worm. It engages but a little sloppy. The 346 worm engages perfectly with the clucth drum but the ID of the work is bigger than the 350 crank. The 357-359 starter pulley is still a work in progress. Steve had a new 346xp top end that the top fin was broke off and repaired. Steve ported the cylinder and modded the muffler. It will use the Walbro HDA 159 carb and stock 350 intake tract for now. The bar is a nos Windsor Speed Tip and the chain is a out of the box Oregon LGX 3/8 .050 59dl. The "after the bench" vidja will have to wait until Wednesday at least and then I will have to figure out how to post it. Lol For now here are a couple pics.

Steve does great work with attention to detail. If you are looking to get a saw ported, give him a shot!

I took the 192T I showed in the "What's on your bench" thread out for a test run while I bucked up some firewood and my freshly ported XPW tagged along for the bigger stuff. After I filled the tank the 192T ran like a champ, it took me a little to get the tune dialed in since I don't have a tach and the 4-stroking was kinda hard to hear but it's close enough. I'll double-check the tune when I'm at my friend's place returning it since they live at a different altitude. The 372 is breaking in nicely and is noticeably faster, and it still has enough torque to pull a 28" buried in oak without any issues. No videos 'cause I typically work alone. Don't worry, 95% of the stuff I cut with the 192 was < 6".

@Woodslasher you ported the XPW?
Nope! I had a local porter do it. He's the guy who did the 181 and 272 you ran last summer. The XPW only got a little transfer widening and I think he raised the exhaust a bit too. All I can say for sure is it picked up a lot of throttle snap without really losing any lugging power, which is exactly what I asked for.

Left to right

2171w fixed the heat. Need to get the idle sorted out now. Not fixed yet.
576xpg reassembled, replaced brake handle and converted to low top. Have six tanks through it now. It's a keeper.
357xpg fixed the heat. I had two wires mixed up. My bad.....
562 new case, p&c, 555 top cover and af. Only a few cuts on it but man is it nice.
465 rancher....... Umm...... Yeah........ Absolute sleeper saw. Thing has some serious grunt. Surprised the heck outta me by not being a turd....
And on the floor out of view was a neglected 600p that got a going through and a tank of mix ran through.

Now that mine are all sorted out..... Onto some other iron/ er plastic. Next group is going to be four 025's two 271's and a 029. Not exactly high dollar work, but ehh take what I can I guess.

The rim setup from the 346 works, but the drum and oil pump drive from a 455/460 is a direct fit and zero slop.

Changed up the way I go about a 562xp just a little bit to try and handle a long bar better. Seems to be fine at that aim. While the 562 may seem old hat to compared to all the new saws out now, its had its fair share of advancements along the way and is as good as any other out there.

This 254 which I affectionately named Leroy Brown is more than holding its own after all these years. After a full rebuild and a full woods port topped off with a HDA-144 carburetor, makes for one hot and smooth running machine. I have to say, these old 2 series machines are still just as viable today as they were when they were new.

Some springtime rain delayed this cut report, it was however worth the wait, a new 572xp set up for West Coast operation.
Big dawgs, oversize clutch cover, a full wrap handle and a lanyard loop on the rear handle all from Husqvarna.
I really enjoyed running this saw and might have to get one for myself one day. It runs very smooth, fast and has the oomph of a saw much larger in cc class.
