Fortunately this is an infrequent thing to have to do. Other than the chain brake(whole 'nother thread could be done on that as well) these are really nice saws. Shame to tarnish 'em a bit here, but that's the way it is. Just like Walter Cronkite used to say.

I used Tygon for an impulse hose on my 7900 and it melted off. Echo fuel line hasn't melted yet. Just throwing it out there
Real tygon or that knock off crap from knecht's? I've had that cheap tygon looking stuff swell up and get loose on filters in the fuel tank and on impulse barbs.

Great thread Stumpy.

I have an 036 here that needs bearings. I was thinking of making it my first powder coat job. That would require an oil pump removal and there's nothing wrong with it.

I'm questioning it now. The pump may stay in place and it may see PPG urethane instead.

I have used nylon ice maker line and it held up quite well.

That dang plastic line you never know what you have .Some of it will stay supple and some of it gets as stiff as bulls money maker .If not OEM probably the best would be synthetic rubber,Buna-N if you could find the right size .I've got some hose used for oxegen hose on Cpat machines I'm going to try next time I need tubing .

This was a great post with pictures and humor! I can honestly say if it would have been me that b!tch would have been in the woods somewhere. I've definitely calmed down with age but not that calm.

Well I almost feel bad for skewering and lambasting Stihl yesterday, but to be fair they did earn part of that. To try and make amends to the saw gods, today I'll throw 'em a bone and show a little love. Not all them guys at Stihl are dumb, as someone there came up with this neat and easy to use little alcohol fuel tester, here pictured with the troublesome saw. When I ordered the lines from @Definitive Dave , I picked this up too, as it seemed like a good idea to be able to actually see how much methanol percentage is in the fuel. Too much may be the reason that saw someone brought to you is blown. Seemed like a gadget I just had to have, for those just in case scenarios. Thanks Stihl and @Definitive Dave , you're the man!

when you get this first lesson in unnecessary frustration completed I can send you an 076 with a bad oil pump to repair :) MWahahahahahahaaaaaaaa
the engineers changed their minds at least 16 times during the production run including a specialty tool that never made any of the tech documents but is necessary for some of the upgrades

My nerves are calm, I can drink coffee again, so send over the 076. LOL It may look like a Husqvarna when you get it back, don't worry, that's just part of the repair process. ;)

Evidently you hadn't noticed the 036 model was without flippy caps.

Another volley shot to our shores! Yes I noticed, this one being converted to an MS360 as a crush victim needed a tank and crankcase, hence the new oil line. It's like a gift that keeps on giving. As bad as the oil line PO'd me, it was nothing like when my BR600 leaked fuel all over my back. I about went to the moon on that one, damn flippy caps! Definitely was the next conspiracy against us for sure, and most successful at nearly ruining us all.
