I’ve wrestled with the 572 vs 500i for quite some time now. Xpg $900 , 500i $1600 plus tax on both. So I just keep running my ported 2171’s and 046/460’s. I really want the weight reduction which would point toward the stihl. Husky dealers are all gone in my area. One switched over to echo because he couldn’t pass the cost of the software $3000 he said, onto his customers.

I just serviced a couple of 572's and readied them to go logging up in the Yoop this winter. One thing I found that griped my posterior was the spark wire boots, I couldn't pull them off. The little coil that makes contact on the plug electrode end were attached like a pit bull on an intruders hind end. Had to pry them off with a screwdriver(crude) and had a tough time of it at that. They came with regular NGK BPMR7A plugs which go on pert near everything. With the lack of a better idea at the time, I placed a tad of grease on the plug end before placing the boot back on.
Drum sprocket bearings were bone dry as they could not be greased with a greaser tool by the user and they aren't going to take the time to take them apart to grease them manually.
Wasn't all bad, air filter's were in excellent condition considering the amount of use. Otherwise just changed rims, fuel filter and spark plugs and they are good to go.

I was running my new 572xp this past weekend, and on my 4th tank of gas, it quit oiling. I finally had a chance this evening to dig in and see what was wrong. What I found was a broken arm on the oil pump worm gear. As a long standing Husky fan, I can say I am disappointed. Hopefully this isn’t a sign of things to come.66100AD6-DFAF-44FE-822D-2D3D41D4D0DA.jpeg14B2A2BD-D330-4916-B483-07C9C076FBD3.jpeg7A0625B1-B8D9-4BCF-94D5-29DDF165270B.jpeg

I'm gonna venture to say that is caused by summer weight bar oil used in cold conditions. That thick oil causes alot of pump load. If that is what you were using of course

4 consecutive tanks ?
No, it was on the 4th tank since new. I ran two tanks through it a couple weeks before, and I was on my second this past weekend when I realized I wasn’t getting oil :(

I run the Husky all season oil...it isn’t very thick. I have run my other 572 with it in 20 degree temps and I have ~ 10 gallons through that saw.
