The X in a circle at the beginning of a serial number means it was test run at the factory after assembly, but what does the uncircled X after the serial number mean?

I.........will ......live..to ......argue pointless things again........I will not be dissuaded, whispered the shamed Buckeye past his poisoned, pasty lips
yours is definitely earlier and it looks like the tags are the same size if you look at the top grommet to bottom edge in both pics :)
Yep. Tags are the same size. I guess I just like 026, 034, 034S, 036, 044, etc better than seeing still 034 super av electronic quickstop all crammed into the tag

The early 044s have the SNs going the opposite direction from the rest of them. Don't know what all the Xs and stuff are for. But they put addl + signs on later versions of the same jug, don't think I have ever seen an explanation of what the changes may be.

Me neither. I know nothing about nothing. Other than I buy saws in boxes (or sometimes in piles) and enjoy putting them back together. Especially when they run like that 034s

the A or B stamped on the top of the cylinder refers to the tightness of the bore, with B being bigger, there are also unmarked bore sizes A/B sizes and I have seen a C bore marking once, those are much more rare
I have been buying up dead slant fin jugs with know serial numbers to try to get some idea of how the marking progression worked, so far it is obvious the different manufacturers used different codes
