I think he was geeking out with an impact.
The saws that he did that still have good threads, I consider lucky.

The only reason for welding like that, in my eyes, is so that he could tap through the weld and use a threaded fastener, without worrying about a nut falling off/out, also thinking the raised bead could help seal that deflector.

Why the spark screen on just 1 outlet ?

Dave is sending Ugly Betty for me to look over. I know Dave really liked the way she ran........so I'm gonna try to keep it as is.......but make it reliable. I might even learn a trick or two from it.

Dave sure likes the way this saw ran. Jason was capable of making a saw really haul ass. It was the shortcuts and lack of integrity that doomed him.

That's how I feel about my 460. We shall see how it is when I pull it down....

Either one is fine with me. I'm sure Dave at CCC can hook you up with either at a decent price. He knows my shipping address.

I use permatex ultra copper to seal muffler to the cylinders. It saves the cylinder flange from fretting wear. Seals better than a gasket most of the time. We used to seal our race car headers with it until felpro came out with a multi layer gasket for the headers.

I just ordered some of that Ultra Copper. Sometimes a little sealer on a exhaust gasket is a damn fine idea.

Try truing up the port outlet with a flat file. Seams like they are never flat enough to seal.

Sometimes I cut the gasket a little thin when matching up the outlet/muffler connection. A little sealer would just add peace of mind that it wasn't gonna break and blow out.

Oh yeah, and flat file the muffler too, not all are flat either. Some combinations are so bad there is no way that they are not going to leak. That high temp goo does work good, not necessarily nice to pop the can and peek at the piston though. Some gaskets just don't have enough give to them to make up for the difference. So something needs to be done so as not to have a leaky snaust on your hands.

Yeah, it's definitely not pretty. It's a sandwich of different welds and sheets and screws. Do you mind looking at a couple of the mufflers for me?
For the 5105 I might just buy a new 5100 non cat muffler.

He was very adamant that the muffler on the 066 had to be exactly that way. No more, no less. So I've left it like that, with the one screen.
