Has anyone had a chance to look at the 395 piston and cylinder pics? And, should I worry about the crack in the case?

I just ordered some of that Ultra Copper. Sometimes a little sealer on a exhaust gasket is a damn fine idea.

I hit both sides with the stationary disk sander then use the ultra copper with no gasket. A little sealant on the threads keeps them from backing out too.

I seen but without seeing a 395 for almost a year up close and paying attention I can't say. Myself I'd just run the thing but I'm not that picky

Yeah, it's definitely not pretty. It's a sandwich of different welds and sheets and screws. Do you mind looking at a couple of the mufflers for me?
For the 5105 I might just buy a new 5100 non cat muffler.

He was very adamant that the muffler on the 066 had to be exactly that way. No more, no less. So I've left it like that, with the one screen.

Put everything into the box Sondre, we will look over everything and make decisions from there. Cylinders, mufflers, whole saws, whatever you wish bud ..........

I'd look at trying to stop drill the crack and if it were me, I'd weld it back to normal.

I'm not sure if it can be stop drilled, havta look at the location closely to be sure that the drill wont go through the case or hit something behind it. If it's in a bad spot, might have to split the cases

Very good assessment, I would add to that just a bit if that's OK. I would do just what you said and then weld a V past the drilled crack, so it looks like a fishes tail or the tail end of an arrow. The V helps in not letting the crack have a place to continue. Also would do a pre and a post heat, cover it up with an insulation blanket and let cool as slowly as possible. This will help maximize the chances of success.

The crack isn't critical but now is the time to take care of it. Send the case half to me and I'll weld it up for you.

Wow! Thanks Shaun. I'll see if I can get someone to help me split it, and I'll send it your way. Thank you for helping out!

this is not normal
Your right. I have went back to this pic at least 5 times since it was posted. Could the rings be loading and unloading during a single cycle several times? Weird looking something more going on there than just scuffing.

The saws that have the most "ghost lines" seem to be the ones that have their bases not perpendicular to the bore. They are out of true.

You have a bunch of guys that will take care of you Sondre, say the word and you'll be all set !

Looking back now, I remember Jason posting that he could make these saws run, then I remember in the group text exactly who it was that told him how to do it. I've yet to see Jason give that guy any credit whatsoever. There was more than one saw that he needed advice from, and he got it from more than one guy. I guaran-dang-tee that if it wasnt for him being able to get specific porting information from those texts, he would have made a bunch of turds.

Again, a few guys that I'm aware of led him by the hand on a bunch of these saws, not one drop of credit or thanks was ever given, the "self centered" disposition was puke inducing.
I'm going with a muffed up bore like Scoot said. It needs to be honed correctly! This guy must use something rougher than 150 WTF....

Most of us were doing some real mods when this joker was still in diapers pulling his pud. 20 years uh...yeah. 20yrs of BS crammed into 3-5. That sounds better. You guys gave him the best recipes as stated.

So glad your digging into them.
