I’m good as long as I get a caffeine fix at least once every 8-10 hours. Thanks again for the coffee hook up last weekend.
Thanks be to @leadfarmer . Good Ole Rodney and I were fighting over who'd pay for *s-word at *s-wordz. He won. I'm good as long as I get a cup every 8-10 minutes.

You can cut some material off the FW or the transfer tunnel. Whichever is easiest for you. I prefer taking it off the FW
I'll prolly go that route. I think it'd look more factory. Another thing I noticed... The new piston pin has a much more aggressive taper than the 440 pin. I look forward to weighing everything...

Would a 28" bar be a tall order for this build? (provided, of course, that my port work is on par..) and, are those aluminum core cannon bars unobtanium? @huskihl , when I ran that 500i you built, I loved how light that bar was. Seems lighter than sugi or tsumura.?

Yeah they’re a little lighter than Sugi and Tsumura. Stihl light are lighter yet

28” bar won’t be a problem but I’d recommend modifying the oil pump if the saw is going wear a 28” on the regular

I noticed Eric's 044 could use a bump with his 28". What's the modification? I'll do it to his as well.

So.... In an effort to do what feels right.... All said and done, Steve will have $1400 wrapped up in parts for this saw. It needs almost everything. It's a well beat on unit. I've even discovered, I believe it has a 460 fuel tank. I ordered a filter base and it does not fit. So here's where I am.... Say I buy this saw from him for 300,and add another 300 for the 460 p&c he's payed for, and find him another 440/12mm 044 and just tune it and let that be his saw.... Thoughts? I'm realizing I don't know if he'd even take care of a custom build. Here it is, after realizing the parts alone would nearly finance one that's already been built, I'd be taking not a dime for all the time I'll have in it. Which is already weeks of sourcing parts, and I haven't even started the build.... Or, should I just buy what he has and advise him into a new 500i?

Oh... And that's not including case powering. So after everything, the case and parts will either be my high maintenance polish, or just rough looking.

An 044/046 hybrid is at least a $1000 saw, no matter how you cut it. Selling his good 50mm P&C will retrieve some Cash.

A muffler modded 500i might be both of your best bet. Mostly, because you won’t be on the hook if it fails. No need to tune, warranty, etc….

Costs add up faster than one could imagine with saws.

I'm in the "it doesn't need to be pretty to cut wood camp".
But, my 044, Ms460 and Ms500i all sit on the same shelf. If I just need to get stuff cut up, I'm taking the 500 every time.
