Nothing wrong with Maxflo filters. They filter better, will outlast OEM, and saw runs better while using it.
I consider it money well spent.

My point was with the filtration on the 441 there’s no need for it.

Keeping the chain sharp is the best way to keep a filter clean on any saw.

Depends more on the type of wood you are cutting IMO, some is just worse then others.

I think it is a little bit of each, a sharp chain certainly helps, but dead wood will always be dustier than live wood, and the type of wood also enters into the mix.

Is the newest saws the only version 3 M-tronic saws?
Trying to get a little better educated on this M-tronic stuff. I grabbed a NIB rear handle ms201 off Ebay that I thought was a carbed model. When I got it, I was disappointed to find it was a M-tron. After running it for several tank, That disappointment left and I really like this little saw!

No reason to upgrade if it's running well already. Not sure what's actually available v3-wise for the 261 in the states yet (if anything)
anyway. I believe the universal solenoid is the main issue right now for v3 upgrades of saws other than the 362 or 661, both of which have new carbs with next gen white solenoids in their "new" versions. The "universal" next gen solenoid will be multi-platform compatible software-wise for all pre-v3 carbs. New v3 solenoids will not fit pre-v3 carbs.

It's my understanding that all v3 coils are intended to be backward compatible with all solenoids.

upgrade on 661 from 2.0 to 3.0 is 1144 007 1801 stihl rep says this is all you need. it has a coil.fuel filter,and solenoid

My 661r arctic Canadian model has the 4701a coil. Is it good to go or can/should I upgrade the electronics?

If it runs good, leave it, if it doesn't, change it. I have an early M Tron 362 that runs just fine.

I like that coil best for a worksaw
I wouldn’t change coils

I had him order me one today. I bought a 2016 that had tree break off inner spike tab . Nothing else harmed. Ordered clutch side and got it in today. Saw is back together new bearings,seals.Waiting on rings to finish.

Your saw is manufactured 07.2013 and that means you don`t have the m-tronic v.3.

If your saw is running good, don`t change it. Your control unit marked with 4701 A is a previous version (part no. 1144 400 4720).
