I'm looking for help identifying a new parts saw I picked up. I think it's an 036 pro based on clear tank, 5mm recoil bolts and later 036 style muffler. Has the older non-compensating carb on it.

They cylinder is throwing me off and doesn't match any pictures posted in this thread. Its a mahle, 48mm and no decomp. It has the extended fin on the exhaust side so the flat top cover from my 034S won't fit. Has a landing for a decomp but different than shown in this thread.
Looks like a decomp era 036 without a decomp so no pro, and non compensation carb, probably a later 036

Maybe worth looking at the serial number, it may help identify where it was made. Ie USA or ?

as well as posting some side pics of the jug. Also the base and transfers etc. If your taking the jug off.

My guess is the same as Big Mac, a std 036 ie non pro/ not a decomp.

But I wonder if it’s got a side chain tensioner

I thought all 036s had side tensioners?

I have an 034 "Farm Boss" that has a front tensioner. It is all apart in my shed, and way down of my list of things to finish!

It has a side tensioner. I'm not at home so cant take more pictures until this weekend. Here are some I have on phone.

Serial number starts with a 2 but dont have the whole number with me.

Something got into flywheel and broke a fin on side of cylinder and a piece of case where wires go through. Flywheel looks ok. I think it should be fine if I can find the rest of the pieces.

What would the correct top cover look like? Like the decomp cover but with a plug?

I own this saw... pretty sure. Doc @drf256 has seen it. No decomp flat top 036. He would remember better than I, maybe. It's non pro but has an adjustable oil pump and it's light imo. Mine is a Stihl jug I do believe. Closed port transfers for sure. It's buried under other saws in it's original case, resting. Needs fresh fuel soon.... every two years

Could send you this cover if you’re interested, it’s not perfect and says 034 but would workView attachment 264864
This won’t fit without work to it, it’s like your 034S cover. You’ll need to do some grinding under the front of the cover, the air dam is too tall. You will see it, it’s raised and sits over the cylinder before the mufkin. That 2nd fin that’s elongated is why.

Redline hit it on the head. That’s a later 036, likely the plastic badge type. There were non-pro and pro and those. Once they went with the MotorSagen designation, they were all Pro. The decomp valve is the only difference on pro vs non pro 1125, unlike the 1121 models.

I still love these saws. They are the best power to size/weight saws ever made IMHO. Ported they can make around 6.5-7hp and they are slightly smaller in size (and 1-2 # heavier) than the 50cc MS261CM. I wish I could retrofit MT to one.

Thanks for the info! I saw the air dam on the 034S cover. My 034S is mint so I baby it, this one will take over heavy firewood duty so just going for up and running.

@drf256 I thought you might be interested in this, this cylinder is off a customer's 034 Super, he had managed to seize it. I'm sure this is an all genuine original saw, but the Mahle cylinder looks very similar to the NOS one for Dall's saw that you posted pics of way back at the start of the thread. Thankfully the transfer has cleaned off beautifully as it was badly seized - straight gassed I believe
