The bearings are tight in it . No play at all and the crank rotates extremely smooth.

You won't see too many that look the same. Most variation of any Stihl OEM I've seen.

Yep. Looks good now. Clean off the lower right side of the base and see if it's a Mahle jug. Weird looking intake for sure

In the pic showing the broken piston, is that a crack in the case in the lower left of the pic??? That could have caused this!

I thought the cylinder would be good! Unless they ingest hard metal (not piston aluminum) they generally hold up.

I've seen a lot of variety in 046-460 as well. Not just timing #s (don't really test em), just quality of ports, plating, etc.

I have a Dchamber and a Stihl ms460. Both are good runners.

Yep. Looks good now. Clean off the lower right side of the base and see if it's a Mahle jug. Weird looking intake for sure

Maybe it is just dirt, but on page 3, frame 48 lower left of pic (about 1/4 over), it looks like a crack in the case.

it's a 1312 coil.

From what I've heard the 1309 coil is supposed to be "the best". It apparently has a more aggressive timing curve. I can't say for 100%. Personally I haven't found much difference between the coils.
I also heard that the 1309 coil only came on the first year 046 saws.
This is all just stuff I've heard. Not sure how true it is. I was just curious which coil you had because you also have a D cylinder which was also supposed to only be on the first year 046.
