Kevin, this looks like a tough conversion. I may be able to weld on tabs or flip shafts.

One things for sure, the 036 boot is very restrictive. I'll post a pic later of its outlet compared to that of an 038.

I'd say it has smaller cross sectional area than the carb bore.

The boot swap alone should help the saw.
I'll go look at carb #'s. It was like what stumpy did. Had to change choke shaft

I'll head out in a few and see what I have that'll fit in an 036. I can't remember the shaft and bolt orientation

I'm porting it now. I'll get the Venturi numbers for you in a bit. Metal dust phase, everything in bags.

.034 from base, .040 from band. Sitting at 107.5/130/84 right now.

It's done. So snotty here that I haven't painted the muffler yet.

Here's a video of some very unsafe cutting. Was the only wood I had and I had a 10 minute dinner deadline. That's when bad things happen.

I will likely sell this saw. This has progressively opening transfers. I redid what the factory was like.

And here's the unsafe video. It's really fat at 14,000 here for its maiden voyage. It was 4 stroking happily at 15,600, but I wasn't sure if it would lean out from all the compression and advance in the cut. I was in a rush and didn't feel like toasting the piston
