Something else that may help Jake is to make a couple more openings in the air filter cover. The ms260 style filter covers are really restrictive and only have a small opening oposite the kill switch to let air into the filter. image.jpeg

Just curious Jake, does your 026 have a 44mm or 44.7mm cylinder? If it's a 44.7 it should say 50cc on the sticker on rear handle

IIRC you can't do a total gasket delete with the 44mm cylinder. The squish will end up around .009-.010. So you would have to find something thinner then the original gasket to replace it with.
If you have a 44.7mm cylinder you may be able to do a complete gasket delete. I was able to delete the gasket with my ms260.(44.7 mm cylinder) My squish after the gasket delete ended up around .018 and the compression was around 190.
Either way be sure and check your squish if you decide to try and do a gasket delete

no my stihl dealer advised against it he said it lets to much saw dust and dirt by.
Meh, you will be fine with an AM nylon 260 filter off of eBay. You can get that and an AM rear cover for cheap.
Unless your saw is fully ported, not sure you need metal. Nothing flows like metal. If you're cutting green wood and sharpen regularly, it wouldn't be an issue.

I'll call BS on this. The 026 has a tiny little screwed in shudder in the right upper corner of the top cover as you look at the spark plug. With that attached, you're no flowing much over the fins. You really need a winter cover and to remove that flap for any warm air.
i don't want to hack on the plastics they are to nice.
See above. For the price you can try both. I'd remove the winter and summer tabs from your rear cover myself.
