I can't for the life of me figure why anybody would buy a high priced saw like an 084 Stihl or a 3120 Husqvarna on E-bay .Those things bring a kings ransom just as non runners .To spend what they bring, sight unseen is like buying a pig in a poke .

I've bought several "classics" namely 2 125 Macs ,one 105 Mac and one 2100S Homelite but as I said before I assumed them to need some work .Only one 125 Mac did not .
Then again I don't think I ever bought a saw from any source I didn't assume needed some work .Some just require more is all .Then again if restoration was easy everybody would do it .

Putting NO RETURNS UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES in your auction MEANS NOTHING!!

Read that 20 times slow and let it sink in.

I will say this again, by agreeing to sell on Ebay you are guaranteeing that everything is as described and pictured and interpreted by any stranger bidding.
What you put in the auction regarding returns is total moot.

The ONLY WAY TO WIN A CASE against a crooked buyer is to
1.) meticulously document everything about your item.
1a.) make sure your listing shows the terms under which you accept returns as - in same condition as sent, with no adjustments or modifications (or as new in for sale as new condition)
2.)only communicate through the Ebay messaging center (everything both of you say is part of the official record that way).
3.) Accept any/all returns
4.) inspect the item returned and meticulously document any changes, damage, etc.
5.) ask Ebay to step in because the item is not in the same condition as when you sent it.
6.) when Ebay asks for the value of the damage, have an answer you can back up through a third party (another dealer estimate, etc.)

Always be polite and write messages to buyers and Ebay with a cool head, if you act like a dick just once you will probably lose the case no matter what.
Ask Ebay for help, this places them in the position to WANT to help you.
Take the time to jump through the hoops Ebay provides, be patient and send them all the pics, videos and explanation you can to make it obvious they buyer is trying to steal from you.

Dave

Just 2 things about your reply sir:

#1 Excellent explanation
#2 This is why you are "Definitive Dave"!

Send me the saw and I'll fix it for nothing and I can add value by porting it and I'll do that for free also.
Maybe be able to make the money back you've lost.

I'm marking this BEST ANSWER!
Makes me want to send my MS660 over there for porting!

My friend uses my 576xp pretty good after a few times of coaching, and she's never used a chainsaw before, never mind a 74cc animal of a saw. A persons gender doesn't matter, you just have to want to run one. There's a lot of idiots that I see out there that are dudes using a chainsaw.

Well, there you have it. The verdict is in. Got the 084 back today, its not the way I sent it but its not been beat up. Muffler screws to the top cover were backwards so whoever took it apart just looked in the cylinder to see the damage. Lean siezure probably from straight fuel or leaning out the high too much. Heres the kicker...I had a Stihl elastostart handle on it when I sold it, came back with a generic handle on it. A brand new one. How do you break a handle off of the saw if it doesn't have AT LEAST 160 lbs. of compression on a big saw. I'd be interested to hear from the builders of saws how much compression it takes to break the handle from an 084 with the decomp engaged.image.jpegimage.jpeg

Not much consolation to offer, but at least you have it back in your possession.

SUCKS SO MUCH
Oh well. At least it looks like you can salvage it.

Yeah, it does both. I'm over it but it just goes to show some peoples morals just aint right. I'm not saying the lady or her husband, but the person who used the saw. I thank God it wasn't hurt worse, because it could have been the case. Back up and punt, as my father use to say, everything happens for a reason. Maybe the saw got homesick!!!

If you want it, I'll send you a new elastostart handle and rope. Sucks that you had this happen. Hopefully they didn't hurt any bearings.

Thank you very much for your offer, it means alot to me when people offer things from their heart. I'll keep you posted, but for now I think I will send the saw away and we will see what happens. Whatever, the saw will be better off than she had been previously. Got to clean her up now and shake the red wood off of her. I've never seen a wood like that. Anyone know what grows down in Clearwater thats got a red tint to the wood?

No problem man. If you decide you would like it, just shoot me a pm with your address and I'll send it to you.
