So what's your "real" job?

I've been working in power distribution for around 5 years now, my first job when I graduated (yes I'm a pup compared to the likes of emu legs)

Basically if we have a power outage in the area I get sent out as first response to figure out what the hell went wrong, takes quite a lot when most of the U.K. Power network is underground and our cable records are "dated" to say the least.

Basically figure out where it's being fed from, how many customers I have off supply then try and re-route power via live switching to get people back on. Once that's done I then do live fault finding with the fancy equipment we have, before calling in for a cable jointing team once I've got a rough location on it to dig, cut and repair. My brother is one of these cable jointers, and sweet mother they don't half give you some *s-word when you get it wrong!

For the last 18yrs I've worked on a large estate owned by a rock star started off doing maintainence jobs and machine repairs self employed then went full time and now I manage the agricultural side and house maintainence of the estate but still very much on the tools and for the last few years in my spare time , I've been building up my OPE business spreading the Dolmar love
Before that agricultural contracting and then forestry contracting when the felling harvesters came too town hand felling became too competitive to earn a crust

I was a finalist once in a hiring campaign for a company that provides "operations staff" to celebrities and power figures in central and southern California. I had been a station captain for a fire department in the government and they figured my EMS and Management experience would play well in being a trusted employee for some famous movie star or musician. I later declined to move along in the process because I was offered a promotion with the government but I always wonder what life would have been like...

Wildlife Manager for the state of Tennessee. In other words: law enforcement officer/game warden, farmer, forester, carpenter, electrician, mechanic, welder/fabricator, engineer, secretary, data entry person, janitor, and truck driver. We do it all to maintain a 25,000 acre wildlife management area with a shooting range and multiple buildings. We have 6 tractors, tillage equipment, bush hogs, dozers, grader, and dump trucks. We also help out on about another 250,000 acres worth of WMAs in east TN.

I have been an Operator at a powerplant for the past 18 years. I spent 15 of them at a 6 unit coal fired plant with 4 additional combustion turbines. That plant was retired and I moved to a single unit plant that makes 1450 megawatts.
