Replaced the fiber bushing with a thrust type needle bearing set up on the back side of the spindle on my South Bend lathe.
Which allegedly cuts the clearance tolerance from .002" down to .0005" that it should be set to. The INA brand was made here in the states. Hopefully this helps with base cutting, being as it's a reverse side facing cut.
