Looked at a few reviews on the ms172 anyway found this interesting.
It's still a clam shell design but unlike anything I've seen before?
Seems it's now possible to set the squish! the crank appears to sit in it's own cradle separate to the cylinder đź‘Ť

That's interesting. Any idea how long Stihl has been doing that with this little motor?

Purchased Thursday for $5.50 in an on line auction and I probably spent $6.00 worth of gasoline to go pick them up.

There's another 25 or so sockets in the vibratory bowl getting the rust cleaned off and the bowl of rusty 1/4" drive sockets will be next in once those are done.

I've already turned one into a clutch removal tool for certain small Homelite saws, probably worth the total cost of the lot right there. I'll have the tool for a long while to come.

I figured the sockets would mostly be odd sizes but in fact there are many there that I use on a regular basis so I'll have a few spares. I mainly bought them to make some special tools (like the clutch removal tool above) and I will have plenty to work with in the coming months and years.

Thin wall 8mm or 5/16" sockets come in handy when working on Stihl saws or Tillotson carburetors. I have a few that I have ground down in the lathe but sometimes get a little carried away using them for more demanding operations; I will be able to keep a supply on hand for a while. I will likely need to modify one of the 7/16" deep sockets to work as a compression release socket for many of the McCulloch saws as there is not enough clearance for most normal size 3/8" drive deep sockets to fit.

They also make great accessories at the arbor press...

Cheap screw divers are also handy to modify for special needs tools when certain situations come up and I have a plan for the little bent up straight blade one already.

At least bring back pictures
The pictures I posted are the things I bought. It was the fourth auction they have had for the gentleman. There will be at least one or two more before the sell the farm. I have many pictures from today.

i grew up welding with the same machine!
I was never fan of the cheap Miller Thunderbolts but it is what it is. We had a few of these years ago in what shop I was teaching in. I prefer Lincoln for SMAW and Miller for GMAW.

This one is a AC/DC machine with good leads. It was $75 and they guy dropped it off to me. That is tough to pass up

What did it sell for?
It is a 1933 Plymouth. Danny's grandson was telling me the morning of the sale there were only 300 built. I am not a car guy so I have no clue. It was on the online portion and when I looked Friday night it was at $5500 pre-bid.

Saturday it sold on-site to a young man for $16,000
